The Metropolitan Water Districts Water System Operations Group has one opening for Operations & Maintenance Technician IV Mechanical located at the Diemer Treatment Facility (Yorba Linda CA) in the Conveyance & Distribution Section.
This recruitment will be used to build an Eligibility List for the Conveyance & Distribution Section at the following locations: Diamond Valley Lake (Winchester CA) Diemer (Yorba Linda CA) Jensen (Granada Hills CA) Lake Skinner (Winchester CA) Lake Mathews (Riverside CA) Soto Street (Los Angeles CA) and Weymouth (La Verne CA). This list will be valid for 6 months from the date a candidate accepts the position.
As an Operations & Maintenance Technician IV Mechanical you will install maintain and repair a wide range of water utility facilities and equipment. In this journeylevel position you will monitor and inspect mechanical equipment to ensure reliability perform predictive and diagnostic testing and conduct preventive and corrective maintenance. You will support operations in conveyance and distribution treatment plants and pumping plants by improving equipment performance and upgrading systems to meet service demands.
Key responsibilities in conveyance and distribution include inspecting maintaining and improving large infrastructure and equipment such as pumps turbines generators motors compressors valves turnouts and hydraulic systems pipelines feeders and canals pressurecontrol and pressurerelief structures and reservoirs. Operational activities include flow changes and adjusting settings in pressure control and pressure relief structures dewatering disinfecting and refilling operations during shutdown and outages. You will also perform maintenance welding fabrication and machining; operate heavy equipment such as dump trucks loaders backhoes overhead hoists and mobile cranes; perform safe rigging procedures; and adhere to proper use of Personal Protective Equipment and respiratory protection. Additionally you will use computer programs for individual time entry maintenance work order tracking work planning and estimating and general professional communications.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:High school diploma or a certificate of high school equivalency in addition to a minimum of 6 years in a mechanical maintenance position at a water agency or in a conveyance and distribution facility such as a pump plant treatment plant and hydroelectric facility or similar environment.
OR
High school diploma or a certificate of high school equivalency in addition to the attainment of journey level skills through a recognized mechanical trade training program.
Journey level experience as demonstrated by practical application of general and advanced techniques and practices specific to the operation maintenance and repair of mechanical systems at a water agency or in a conveyance and distribution facility such as a treatment plant pump plant and/or power generation systems and related apparatus.
CERTIFICATIONS LICENSES AND REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS
License(s): Valid California Class C Drivers License or equivalent (required at time of application) that allows you to drive during your employment.
Employees in this position may be required to obtain and maintain the following certifications licensing and registrations:
Valid Drivers license from state of residency equivalent to a California Class B
Crane Certifications
Welding Certification
Chemical Responder Certification
Forklift Certification
Manlift Certification
MWD High Voltage Switching Certification
Water Distribution Certification
Expectations of Hours of Service Emergency and Standby Service:
Employees in this position may be required to work offshift hours and/or standby service to address operational needs and emergencies as required. May be required to work extended periods away from the normal reporting location.
