Job Summary

KBR is seeking a Mechanical Designer to support an Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) contract under the KBR Research and Development Program. This role provides design and manufacturing support for AFIT graduate students and faculty across six academic departments assisting in the development of researchrelated components and assemblies. This is a fulltime ENTRY Level onsite position located at WrightPatterson Air Force Base (WPAFB).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the design and manufacturing process of parts and assemblies using CAD software paper sketches and verbal instructions
  • Collaborate with students faculty and staff to develop custom mechanical components for research projects
  • Create detailed blueprints with accurate dimensions tolerances and material specifications
  • Utilize Microsoft Office for basic documentation and troubleshoot basic computerrelated issues
  • Support prototype fabrication and manufacturing by working closely with machinists technicians and engineers
  • Ensure designs meet engineering standards and research requirements while optimizing for manufacturability

Work Environment:

  • Location: Onsite relocation not available
  • Travel Requirements: Minimal 020
  • Working Hours: 10hrs/day 40hrs/week

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering Manufacturing Engineering or a related field; OR
  • Associate degree/Vocational certificate in ComputerAided Design (CAD) Engineering or related field; OR eight years experience in mechanical design or manufacturing
  • Proficiency in 3D ComputerAided Design (CAD) software such as SolidWorks Fusion Inventor or similar programs.
  • Familiarity with basic precision measuring tools including calipers micrometers gauge pins and similar instruments.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with machining processes including CNC programming and manual machining
  • Familiarity with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and engineering documentation standards
  • Knowledge of rapid prototyping techniques 3D printing and reverse engineering
  • Extensive experience with SolidWorks.
