Job Summary: Participates in all aspects of pre and postoperative care of the cardiac surgical patient. This position will interface with various medical staff attending in providing care/coverage of the patients.
Job Description:
Essential Responsibilities: - Performs and documents preoperative evaluation (history and physical examinations). Orders and interprets diagnostic tests.
- Examines and evaluates pre and postoperative patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Writes orders for medications and treatments. Performs invasive procedures such as: placement of arterial and central venous lines insertion of chest tubes intubations of patients removal of intraaortic balloon pump catheters.
- Collaborates with staff surgeon and house staff in educating the patients and their families in medical care. Works with staff in providing patient care in the following locations: the intensive care units (CCU CVICU MICU) Cardiac Surgery Stepdown Units PCU Cardiology Units and staff cardiac surgeons clinical practice area.
- Inserts and removes of chest tubes (thoracostomy) central line placements arterial lines and Swan ganz floats. Troubleshoots intraaortic balloon pump catheters. Removes intraaortic balloon pump catheters and temporary pacing wires. Initiates blood products for hemodynamically unstable patients.
Required Qualifications:- Masters degree required.
- License Nurse Practitioner License required. or Registration Physician Assistant License required. and Certificate 1 Basic Life Support required. and Certificate 2 Advanced Cardiac Life Support required.
- 35 years related work experience required.
- NP/PA licensed in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
- Three to five years experience as a NP/PA with part of that time dealing with highly acute patients on a surgical service.
- American Heart Association BLS/ACLS
- Basic familiarity with computers. Ability to navigate at a basic level within webbased applications.

- Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate indepth knowledge of concepts practices and policies with the ability to use them in complex varied situations.
- Team Work: Ability to act as a team leader for small projects or work groups creating a collaborative and respectful team environment and improving workflows. Results may impact the operations of one or more departments.
- Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service and staff training to meet customer service standards and expectations for the assigned unit(s). Resolves service issues in the assigned unit(s) in a timely and respectful manner.

Physical Nature of the Job:Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Some elements of the job are sedentary but the employee will be required to stand for periods of time or move through out the hospital campus
