OVERVIEW The ECS Physical Education Teacher 69 organizes games and challenges that promote physical activity among adolescents from sixth to ninth grade. The ECS PE Teacher develops motor skills and physical development and proper exercise and eating habits for children. The ECS PE teacher must adjust their curricula to adapt to children with disabilities or different physical abilities. The ECS PE teacher is responsible for the planning and orchestration of a Physical Fitness Day for students and runs additional activities to support student wellness and active lifestyle. The ECS PE teacher must have strong speaking and listening skills. Besides being knowledgeable about an activity they need to be able to communicate and demonstrate it properly. The ECS PE teachers must be able to observe all students and maintain discipline within the class. In addition to students they interact with parents other teachers and school administrators. Candidates should be energetic and progressive minded with a willingness to work collaboratively with all educators at the campus.
Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Use the Environmental Charter Schools PE scope and sequence to create purposeful and appropriate lesson plans that support physical fitness team development and sportsmanship health and wellness gross motor development nutrition and individual or team sports.
- Use the Environmental Charter Schools health scope and sequence to create purposeful and appropriate lesson plans that support the development of students emotional and sexual health and wellness
- Ensure that lesson plans are aligned to the PE/Health Pennsylvania State Standards and/or the Common Core Standards for Physical Education and Health
- Create a positive achievementoriented and structured learning environment in which all students can experience success
- Employ multiple strategies to accommodate different learning styles and abilities including special education students gifted education students and English language learners
- Regularly evaluate student progress using a variety of assessment methods
- Utilize the Google platform for document development
- Enter all assignments and grades into the ECS SIS
- Keep current in subject matter knowledge and willing to share this knowledge for continual improvement of the school
- Support health and wellness activities in the school
- Actively engage with the school community by attending annual ECS events such as Earth Night Open Houses and other principal designated events
Educational Background and Work Experience - Bachelors degree from an accredited institution
- PA certification in Health/Physical Education preferred.
- Experience in middle gradesfocused physical education instruction helpful
