Job Description
Summary
At HiWay Paving we are general contractors in the construction field that specialize in significant amounts of concrete paving storm drainage and excavation on highways and airfields.
We are seeking a highly motivated Surveyor to join our team in Columbia SC with the flexibility to travel (up to 100 to help us execute our projects in Nashville TN Charlotte NC and future sites and cities TBD.
Surveyors basic responsibilities will include surveying layout in several locations and creating maps and reports of survey results for our concrete paving and other related projects.
What Youll Do:
- Conduct surveys on roadways airfields airports and military bases. Examine previous records and evidence to ensure data accuracy.
- Research and design methods for survey processes.
- Use equipment and tools to accurately measure land features (e.g. longitudes latitudes).
- Build maps sketches and charts.
- Work closely with grading and paving crews.
- Provide guidance to other field staff.
- Report on survey results and present findings to Survey and/or Machine Control Manager as well as other project stakeholders.
- Collaborate with engineers and architects on projects.
- Assist Superintendents and Project Managers with other operational duties as assigned.
What We Look For:
- 03 years experience as a surveyor or in a similar role
- Tech familiarity and knowledge with GPS and TPS preferred but not required.
- Valid certifications needed to work on construction sites in project locations required.
- Aptitude in math and problemsolving.
- Attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Able to work nights and weekends.
- Ability to gain clearance in restricted/highsecurity zones. (Airport AOA Military Bases etc.
- Physical capabilities required are climbing lifting carrying a minimum of 75 lbs. standing sitting walking entering confined spaces pushing pulling kneeling squatting and performing repetitive actions.

We operate in several southeastern and midwestern states with current job sites in South Carolina Tennessee and North Carolina as well as corporate/backoffice operations in Ohio (our headquarters) and remote locations. We perform most of our work and services as a prime contractor but occasionally serve as a subcontractor on principal contracts with federal state and other governmental agencies as well as private owners.
