Park Steward
The Park Steward starting hourly rate is $15.00. This is a fulltime position.
Objective:
The overall mission of the Park Steward program is to maintain a secure clean attractiveand welcoming environment in Downtownsparks and plazas.
Essential Job Functions:
- Daily evaluation of assigned area at the beginning and end of each shift with a detailed report of work completed. Follow the guidelines and schedules posted for each area.
- Landscaping: mowing weeding pruning deadheading clearing leaves and dead materials as needed or asinstructed.
- Seasonal Duties: pulling plants mulching planting as directed.
- Watering: assess daily in each area if lawn plants and trees need to be watered; water; accordingly report any issueswith irrigation systems.
- Trash: emptying trash cans and putting trash in the appropriate pickup area changing trash bags in cans and walkingthrough area to pick up loose trash. This should be checked several times throughout each shift and is a priority.
- Furniture: setting up and breaking down furniture setting up umbrellas weather permitting. Wipe down tables andchairs periodically throughout each shift. Lock up furniture as needed. Report any broken furniture to Director.
- Patrol oversee and serve as an ambassador in designated public spaces for the purpose of creating a secure wellmaintained and welcoming environment. Identify challenges and make suggestions for improvements.
- Snow and ice removal as needed.
- Communicate with Director aboutthe need for repairs new tools uniform requests and additional training.
- Assist in the planning staging and supervising events in various public spaces.
- Respond to emergencies by notifying appropriate authorities.
- Monitor public spaces for rodent infestation broken lights illegal dumping graffiti etc. and report to Director.
- Evaluate the use of plazas and parks and make recommendations for improvements to the spaces that will maximizethe publics access and enjoyment.
- Handle various initiatives in park spaces including games working events handling vendors etc.
- Routinely monitor the condition of trees plants and turf.
- Perform related tasks as required.
- Administrative and logistics support as required
Qualifications:
- Minimum of high school diploma or GED
- Two years of experience in landscaping hospitality public safety
- Ability to work day and evening shifts holidays and weekends.
- Minimum of 18 years of age
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Willingness to wear a specified uniform and maintain aneat and professional appearance
- Ability to work well with others and support Downtown Partnership of Baltimore in various activities. Must be capable of following written and verbal directives.
- Must be able to frequently sit stand lift up to 40 pounds bend and walk significantly.
- A valid drivers license is highly preferred.
- Successfully pass preemployment screenings including controlled substance screening background investigation and reference checks.
