The City of Fairburn is seeking a qualified highly skilled Senior Electric Lineman that can perform work in the installation maintenance alteration and repair of overhead electrical lines underground cables electrical substations and related electrical equipment. Local government or electric utility experience is a plus. Reports to the Electric Superintendent.
Hiring Range: $30.67 $33.74 Hourly Rate (Depending on qualifications)
Work Days/Hours: Monday Friday
7:00 a.m. 4:00 p.m.; may be required to work emergency power outages and in an on call rotation.

JOB SUMMARY
The Senior Electric Lineman is responsible for the installation maintenance and repairs of the electrical system in the City of Fairburn.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Climbs power poles and steel towers splicing and making repairs to energized lines.
- Constructs new overhead lines setting poles installing cross arms and brackets stringing wire and placing equipment such as transformers switches cutouts lightning arrestors and insulators.
- Performs switching operations as a member of a line crew.
- Runs new service lines from pole or transformer to consumers premises.
- Reconstructs existing lines and related fittings.
- Phases out and cuts in new circuits; pulls slack out of primary and secondary wires; tests poles lines and other facilities.
- Trims trees to clear wires.
- Installs maintains and repairs electrical underground distribution equipment such as conduit duct systems boxes and vaults switches capacitors transformers street lights concrete foundations.
- Installs electrical cable in ducts or direct burial; installs cable risers; splices and terminates nonleaded high voltage cables
- Drives trucks and operates associated equipment as assigned; assists in the instruction and training of other new crew members in techniques of the trade.
- Responds to emergency calls during hurricanes inclement weather or other emergency situations.
- Serves as crew leader as required completing the necessary paperwork (material forms time sheets etc. and preparing reading and/or interpreting construction prints and work requests.
- Installs removes or repairs the following equipment on energized or deenergized lines in all types of weather conditions; anchors crossarms insulators brackets capacitors regulators poles switches lightning arrestors grounds transformers (overhead and underground primary secondary and services) URD switchgear LBC cabinets manholes splices boxes and fuses.
- Switches tags tests and grounds overhead and underground electrical systems.
- Writes switching orders performs and directs substation and field switching operations.
- Phases out and cuts in new circuits; pulls slack out of primary and secondary wires; tests poles lines and other facilities.
- Installs maintains and repairs electrical underground distribution equipment such as conduit duct systems boxes and vaults switches capacitors transformers street lights and concrete foundations.
- Trims trees to clear wires.
- Drives trucks and operates associated equipment as assigned; assists in the instruction and training of other new crew members in techniques of the trade.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED and threeyear apprenticeship program; supplemented by five 5 years of related experience; or any equivalent combination of education training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge skills and abilities for this job.
Licenses or Certifications:
Valid Class A or B CDL drivers license required; Integrated Transmission System Operator Certificate
Special Requirements:
Requires an acceptable general background check to include a local and state criminal history check and an acceptable driving record. This position is deemed safetysensitive and is subject to random alcohol and controlled substance testing.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of basic arithmetic operations.
- Knowledge of methods tools equipment and materials used in electrical installation and repair work and/or in the construction and maintenance of electrical distribution and transmission lines.
- Knowledge of safety practices and regulations applying to low and high voltage electrical wires.
- Knowledge of pertinent firstaid principles and techniques including resuscitation methods.
- Ability to perform electrical installation and repair work and construct and maintain electric distribution and transmission lines.
- Ability to think and act quickly and appropriately in emergencies.
- Ability to work from electrical plans and detailed drawings.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English in person and over the phone.
- Ability to train and supervise others.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
- Ability to use protective clothing and equipment such as masks coats vests hard hats boots goggles gloves reflective vest and other safety devices.
- Ability to operate or learn to operate personal computer hardware and software associated with UPC locate activities.
- Skill in use of operating hand and power tools vehicles and related light & medium duty equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is moderate work which requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force. Work requires regular and at times sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing stooping kneeling crouching and crawling and that may involve the lifting carrying pushing and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials. Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors sounds depth texture and visual cues or signals. Tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in an outdoor environment. Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions such as dirt dust pollen odors wetness humidity rain fumes temperature and noise extremes machinery vibrations electric currents traffic hazards toxic agents disease or pathogenic substances. May be required to work outside regularly scheduled hours and be available for emergency and/or prearranged work when called upon.
