Job Description

Overview

Under the direction of the department manager performs interpretive patient care and technical functions to insure proper radiologic diagnosis of patients. Radiology technicians must be able to closely follow physician instructions prepare radiograph equipment position patients correctly and accurately capture the requested diagnostic image.

Responsibilities

Demonstrate ability to produce high quality radiographs

  • Consistently produces diagnostic images and keeps repeats to a minimum.

Follow all radiation protection guidelines as listed in Title 17 California Radiation Control Regulations

  • Comply with film badge policy 100 of the time.
  • Shield patients per protocols 100 of the time.
  • Record female patients LMP on requisition100 of the time.
  • Follow proper storage and up keep of lead aprons and gloves 95 of the time.
  • Follow appropriate protection protocols for other employees and/or family membersRadiology area.

Room setup and assist Radiologist

  • Maintain supplies stocked and room cleaned and organized.
  • Follow proper technique if procedure is sterile procedure or fluoroscopy etc.
  • Assist Radiologist when indicated.

Monitor all Equipment use and function

  • Troubleshoots equipment before calling service engineer.
  • Takes good care of all equipment and provides regular surface cleaning sessions for all xray units.

Complete all patient paperwork

  • Within 10 minutes of exam check to be sure that the patient information is legible and correct on all paperwork.
  • Be sure jacket has appropriate insert.
  • Compare jackets as needed.
  • Report all problems with paperwork to appropriate person.

Supply Control

  • Utilizes resources conscientiously. Minimizes waste of resources and continuously seeks ways to save on supplies. Manages inventorywell.

Participates in education programs

  • Attends inserviceworkshops as requested by supervisor.
  • Attends outside education seminars to remain current in field.

Demonstrate flexibility in job duties

  • Assist in other areas of the department as needed.
  • Become knowledgeable of functioning of all areas of department.
  • Suggest areas that need attention and offer assistance.
  • Actively participates in Performance Improvement Activities.

Professional Conduct

  • Employee has the willingness and ability to perform additional duties and responsibilitiesin different areas of the department on an asneeded basis or as determined by management.
  • Follows established hospital and department policies.
  • No more than 2 written substantiated complaints representing a breach of policy procedure or professional behavior since last evaluation.
  • Demonstrates the philosophy of team concept.
  • Participates in group projectsand staff meetings with suggestions that enhance the work environment and increase productivity.
  • Communicates well with supervisor reporting problems with equipment supplies or procedures. Requests assistance as appropriate.
  • Maintains confidentiality as related to job responsibilities.
  • Exhibits willingness to resolve problems as they arise.
  • Consistently projectspositive professional image through appearance and behavior.
  • Attends 75 of staff meetings or reads and initials minutes.
  • Completes assigned work within shift.

Guest/Interdepartmental Relations

  • As observed by representatives of management all interactions are conducted in a professional manner.
  • Verbal and written feedback from patients family members. significantothers medical staff visitors and coworkers indicates behavior conducive to positive guest relations.
  • Consistently exhibits appropriate phone protocol (e.g. answers phones promptly is courteous and helpful).
  • Consistently contributes to the team effort(e.g. assists coworkers when need is observed or upon request offers constructive suggestions rather than complaints).
  • Consistently displays cheerful and positive attitude.

Professional Growth and Development

  • Completes annual safety updates withinestablished time frames.
  • Completes general and departmental orientation within established time frames.
  • Attends 80 of inservices programs.
  • Maintains licensure/certification as appropriate.

Performance Improvement

  • Consistently strives to understand anticipate and meet the needs expectations and satisfaction levels of patients and other customers. Errors inefficiencies and inaccuracies are brought to managements attention with suggestions for improvement. Develops innovative solutions to departmental problems. Identifies and implements methods of controlling costs or generating revenue while providing maximum value to both the patient/customer and the hospital. Maximizes efficiency in all departmental operations. Measures progress against quality goals.

Qualifications

  1. Minimum Education Completion of an Accredited TwoYear Radiology Technology Program.
  2. Minimum Experience No Formal Experience Required; However One Year AcuteCare Setting Preferred.
  3. Required Certification/Registration A.R.R.T required; C.R.T. license required. BLS certification required. Fluoroscopy Permit required within six months from hire date.
