The Senior Specialist Smoking Cessation is an integral member of the Program Design team and is primarily responsible for assisting the Manager and other team members in delivering on the operational goals for the Smoking Cessation initiative in the Regional Cancer Programs (RCPs) and beyond. The Senior Specialist will work closely with Regional Smoking Cessation Champions (Champions) to drive engagement and quality improvement of the SC programs in the regions. The Senior Specialist will be the first point of contact for the Regional Smoking Cessation Champions and will lead monthly meetings with the Champions designed to facilitate knowledge sharing and meaningful discussion about challenges and opportunities for program improvement. The Senior Specialist will also support regional performance management processes such as quarterly performance reviews involving senior leadership.
The Senior Specialist may also work to support new initiatives as opportunities arise. This may include working closely with the Lead Smoking Cessation on initiatives to expand access to Nicotine Replacement Therapy implement SC Programs in new sites improve measurement of smoking cessation outcomes and deliver on research study goals with external partners.
Here is what you will be doing:
Develop and maintain knowledge of the 14 regional smoking cessation programs including current state strengths challenges etc.
Act as main point of contact for the Champions. This includes:
Planning the agenda facilitating/chairing and overseeing logistics of monthly calls with the Champions as well as an annual Champions Forums held on a particular theme
Addressing questions or concerns from Champions as they arise
Facilitating working groups of smaller subsets of Champions
Working closely with other team members to lead performance management processes with regions; e.g. keeping track of quarterly discussions related to performance indicators leading midyear 1:1 touch points with Champions supporting quarterly performance reviews with regional senior leadership etc.
Lead overall engagement and project management of initiatives to expand smoking cessation programs beyond Regional Cancer Centres (e.g. diagnostic programs inpatient units partner hospitals)
Act as representative for the program to both internal and external stakeholders as appropriate
Supports any projects or initiatives assigned by the Manager and acts as back up as required
Develops and presents materials using excellent written verbal and graphical communications skills
Provide support to OHs Smoking Cessation Clinical Lead as needed
As needed supports engagement of internal and external smoking cessation stakeholders including Smoking Cessation Advisory Committee and Smoking Cessation Research and KT committee
Here is what you will need to be successful:
Education and Experience
Undergraduate degree in a related disciplined (health administration health informatics public health information technology business administration or recognized equivalent)
Masters degree is an asset
36 years of related work experience ideally in the area of smoking cessation and/or health system oversight and improvement
Experience supporting projects to address healthcare quality and/or health system supports
Experience supporting project planning in a multistakeholder environment including developing timelines identifying risks/mitigation strategies managing multiple deadlines etc.
Knowledge and Skills
Knowledge of Ontarios healthcare system structure functions and delivery
Knowledge of smoking cessation is a strong asset
Strong oral and written communication skills including ability to clearly communicate complicated ideas to different audiences
Strong critical thinking analytical and problemsolving skills
Interest and experience in addressing health equity
High attention to detail organization and time management skills
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word PowerPoint Excel and Outlook
Highly motivated selfstarter with a desire to make an impact on the health of Ontarians
Team player that contributes to a supportive and positive working environment
