The Controls Engineering Group Manager is responsible for leading and supporting the multiple programs at multiple sites. Responsibilities include managing individual project workload as well as leading project teams across multiple organizations and levels. Work is performed in a team environment where you will have daily interactions with product engineering plant engineering other manufacturing engineers and a multitude of others to successfully launch new products. You will be working in multiple environments central engineering plant environment and OEM where a considerable amount of creativity and initiative is exercised as well as a high level of independent judgment. You will also drive innovation through digitization AI and machine learning. This role will focus on leveraging advanced technologies to streamline processes enhance datadriven decisionmaking and deliver transformative business insights.
What Youll Do
Prioritization of workload to enable employees to accomplish all responsibilities
Project management for large projects for GM
Procure/launch new and major programs for controls engineering
Maintain working contacts with vendors GM IT other internal engineering disciplines and management at plant and headquarters
Diagnose and correct deficiencies in manufacturing processes
Stay abreast of new controls technology including robotics machine vision computer graphics and computer controls (CNC PLC PC HMI networks)
Lead/Participate in safety gRisk activities with cross functional group
Support deployment of best common systems and methods as defined in the PT Global Controls Bill of Process
Continuously improve quality cost responsiveness & safety
Providing technical direction to and oversight of outside vendor sources
Providing technical direction to and coordination of less experienced controls engineers
Perform People Leader responsibilities for direct reports including but not limited to:
CAP goal setting midyear and yearend reviews
Managing results and evaluating/coaching individual performance
Compensation planning and communication
Training and development planning
Support manager with general administrative tasks such as managing budget targets approving travel requests expense reports PTAS and purchasing request & planning vacation schedules
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
8 years of experience with Fanuc Robots Matrox/Cognex cameras Rockwell Automation or Siemens PLC and HMIs
Bachelors degree in electrical engineering or a related discipline
Strong technical knowledge in controls engineering
Proven ability to implement lean manufacturing principles
Demonstrated project management skills with a high level of autonomy and accountability for results
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
Experience in people leadership either as a Supervisor or Manager
Experience in launch and/or plant operations.
Knowledge of GM controls standards with the ability to implement and teach them.
Familiarity with digital transformation initiatives process automation and data analytics platforms (e.g. Power BI Tableau).
Strong understanding of AI/ML tools and frameworks.
