Dillard University classified by the Carnegie Foundation as a balanced arts and sciences/professions institution invites applications for the position of PSO2 Campus Police Officer (armed). The University is located in the culturallyrich and diverse city of New Orleans Louisiana.
POSTING SUMMARY
The Police Officer for Dillard Universitys Police Department conducts interior and exterior armed uniformed preventative patrols; investigates incidents and prepares necessary reports; provides escorts; vehicular assists; and other services; performs duties related to the protection and safety of the University personnel as well as the other resources and assets. This is an Essential Personnel position which can require that the incumbent must report for duty and work through emergencies and also can be designated by the supervisor as essential to the accomplishment of work or for the completion of critical tasks.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES TYPICALLY NEEDED TO PERFORM THIS JOB SUCCESSFULLY:

Excellent verbal and written communications skills
Ability to obtain police commission through Louisiana Department of Public Safety & Corrections
Demonstrated working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
Ability to maintain a residential telephone number which must be listed with the department
Ability to concentrate for extended periods of time
Ability to carry and/or life items weighing up to 50 pounds
Availability to work overtime as assigned
Qualifications:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
20 years of age or older
Must obtain Louisiana Basic P.O.S.T. (Level I) certification within 360 days from date of hire and maintain same as a condition of continued employment
Must obtain Red Cross First Aid and CPR certification within 360 days from date of hire and must maintain certification as a condition of continued employment.
Must have a valid and unrestricted (not including corrective lens needs) U.S. Drivers License and must meet the Dillard University Motor Vehicle Policy criteria to become and authorized driver
MINIMUM EDUCATION
High school diploma or equivalent
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Prior police/public safety experience
