Job Description
Join us at Notre Dame Academy Hingham an allfemale college preparatory high school dedicated to empowering young women in grades 612. As a vibrant Catholic learning community sponsored by the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur we focus on personal faith formation academic excellence and social responsibility.To be successful in the English Department you must be an experienced teacher with demonstrated success in current best practices for teaching English and who seeks to share your love of literature with others. The goal of the English Department is to develop a students capacity to reason and use language to communicate effectively while developing an appreciation of rhetoric. The curriculum presents a multidimensional core discipline which includes the study of language literature and writing. You must challenge each student to develop their analytical skills to become critical thinkers who can express themselves coherently through both speech and written word. This position is under the supervision of the English Department Chairperson.** Faculty course assignments are at the discretion of the department chair***Currently we are most interested in candidates with a strong knowledge base in literature and writing and experience teaching courses in grades 912 all levels including AP.Components of ResponsibilitiesCreate a classroom environment that develops each students awareness and appreciation of literature.Maintain a positive and engaging classroom environment for students.Prepare and deliver lectures to students on topics outlined in the school curriculum.Evaluate and grade students class work performance assignments and papers.Maintain student attendance records grades and other required records.Prepare course materials such as assessments homework assignments and supplemental handouts.Initiate facilitate and moderate classroom discussions.Collaborate with colleagues to address teaching and research issues.Work collaboratively with colleagues across divisions and departmentsRemain knowledgeable of instructional and curriculum trends goals and objectivesActively support community based on cultural competence diverse perspectives and respect for all voicesPerform other duties as assignedJob RequirementsBachelors degree in English Masters degree preferredAt least three years of fulltime teaching experienceAbility to communicate effectively (orally and in writing) and possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students faculty staff and parentsAbility to plan organize develop and conduct comprehensive lesson plans and instruction that fully engage studentsDemonstrated knowledge in current teaching principles theories methods behavior management techniques and conflict resolution strategiesUnderstanding of academic social and behavioral characteristics of high school studentsAbility to create and contribute to an engaging and inclusive learning environment and workplaceHistory of continued education or professional developmentAbility to be flexible effectively manage stress and adapt to changing work priorities and assignments*Notre Dame Academy seeks to create a working and learning environment that reflects the society and community in which we are located and we actively encourage candidates of all backgrounds to apply.Ready to make a difference If youre excited about this opportunity please submit your resume and cover letter to School Springs at www.schoolspring.
