The Peggy and Harold Katz Family Drug Discovery Center (Katz Center) has an exciting opportunity for a temporary parttime Assistant Scientist. This position is focused on cardiovascular disease (CVD) epidemiology. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in statistical analysis data management and research methodology with specific experience in SAS and SUDAAN. The Assistant Scientist SOM (N) carries out a particular research agenda in support of the Universitys research goals and objectives. Moreover the Assistant Scientist SOM (N) contributes to the scientific community by publishing research findings and promotes the Universitys reputation as a leader in the field.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Contributes to basic and applied research activities and authors scientific publications technical and agency reports and patent preparations.
- Collaborates with senior staff to publish findings in refereed journals.
- Creates and conducts experiments and analyzes results.
- Works with other researchers to use and develop end products.
- Writes extramural proposals with approval from appropriate senior staff.
- Provides ready access to all experimental data for managing staff.
- Requests or acquires equipment and supplies for assigned project(s).
- Uses the Internet surveys legal documents and other available sources to collect information.
- Applies for grants to continue research and prepares materials for submission to granting agencies and foundations.
- Adheres to University and unitlevel policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
Department Specific Functions
- Collaborate with Dr. Elfassy and research teams on projects related to cardiovascular disease epidemiology.
- Conduct thorough literature reviews to support ongoing research initiatives.
- Run and code statistical analyses using large complex survey datasets.
- Develop and utilize CVD risk scores in research analyses.
- The incumbent will stay updated relevant literature
- Strong analytical skills attention to detail and proficiency in research methodologies are essential for the success of this role.
- Draft results for manuscripts ensuring clarity and precision in presenting findings.
- Create data visualizations to effectively communicate research outcomes.
- Write and prepare manuscripts for publication in peerreviewed journals.
- Assist in writing manuscript proposals and submitting manuscripts for publication.
- Contribute to the preparation of grant proposals to secure funding for research projects.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
- Ph.D. M.D. or other doctoral level degree in relevant field
- Minimum 1 year of relevant experience

- Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
