Job Duties:
The Accounting Specialist Intern contributes to the fulfillment of VRSs mission and vision by ensuring all line of business system transactions are accurate which allows proper interfacing to the general ledger in a timely manner. The Accounting Specialist Intern performs a range of accounting finance and business tasks including but not limited to: efficiently maintaining and/or processing Accounts Payable Accounts Receivable Payroll Fixed Assets General Accounting transactions General Ledger Account Reconciliations member/employer account maintenance/research data analytics research assists with procurement transactions and/or special projects as assigned.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities may include the following:
Provide support for the Finance areas (General Accounting Operations Accounting and Procurement) as requested
Process repetitive accounting transactions (e.g. invoices journal entries billing payroll & benefit disbursements and deductions etc.
Follow established procedures for processing invoices check requests adjustments vouchers etc.
Prepare journal entries for those transactions not available for the automated journal upload process
Assist in investigating and resolving inquiries and making the necessary corrections as needed
Assist and/or prepare General Ledger Account reconciliations
Identify and take corrective actions to clear variances and outstanding items
Assist with monthend and/or yearend reporting procedures work paper preparation and audit process as requested
Assist with documenting and/or updating processes and procedures
Perform filing and general administrative tasks
Maintain confidentiality of Personally Identifiable Information (PII) and other sensitive data
Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates must meet the following criteria:
Working towards an undergraduate degree or certificate in Accounting Business or closely related field (from an accredited college or university)
Must have a declared major
Successfully completed Introduction to Accounting I and II
Completed a minimum of 60 course credits
Maintain a status of Junior (or within 6 credit hours of achieving)
An overall GPA of at least 2.5 with a minimum grade of C in all required Accounting and Business courses
General knowledge of accounting principles processes procedures and financial controls
General knowledge of financial information systems and a general ledger
The successful candidate must also have the following key competencies: attention to detail and accuracy; good interpersonal and communication skills; good organizational analytical and problemsolving skills; the ability to maintain confidentiality; and a positive outlook with ability to meet deadlines on multiple projects.
Additional Considerations:
Experience with Excel is preferred.

Currently this position has a hybrid work schedule requiring work in the office two days per week and work remotely three days per week. The selected candidate must be able to work in the office any day of the week as required by the manager and per the agreed upon internship schedule.
