The Opportunity

USAA is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Business Risk and Controls Advisor at the Mid Level to join our dynamic team. In this critical firstlineofdefense role you will partner with Compliance and Risk Management Business Operations IT Audit Services and Regulators to support risk and compliancebased initiatives. You will play a key role in ensuring the effectiveness of risk and compliance management programs contributing significantly to the organizations overall risk posture.

This roles responsibilities will include:

  • Partnering with business leaders to ensure adherence to established risk frameworks.
  • Supporting the Issue Management Lifecycle including identification creation support and closure of issues.
  • Monitoring firstlineofdefense activities to minimize risk exposures.
  • Providing risk and compliance guidance to business partners.
  • Leveraging datadriven insights to identify and address key risks.
  • Collaborating effectively with crossfunctional teams and external stakeholders.
  • Contributing to the ongoing enhancement of risk and compliance management programs.

We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position will be based out of our San Antonio TX headquarters. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

What youll do:

  • Advises the business on how to strengthen and manage their control environment pertaining to oversight of procedures/process accurate regulatory reporting and filing document governance risk control selfassessments procedure governance control design new product controls CoSA Third Party Governance or quality governance.
  • Performs ongoing supervision and oversight of business controls which may include the coordination of testing root cause analysis control design and examining key risk metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of established business controls.
  • Performs risk data analysis report preparation and trend analysis utilizing business intelligence tools.
  • Partners with business owners to assist them in the identification of control failures and assesses the impact.
  • Assists with translating control deficiencies into action plans and facilitates effective and timely risk remediation through action plan oversight; provides recommendations to enhance governance practices in alignment with risk and compliance frameworks.
  • Maintains processes procedures and tools for managing exception alerts as they occur including monitoring of resulting exception cases.
  • Provides control oversight to ensure compliance with laws and regulations.
  • Serves as a resource to team members.
  • Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified measured monitored and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

What you have:

  • Bachelors degree; OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.
  • 4 years of experience supporting riskrelated compliancerelated or business control design activities; OR 4 years of experience in a relevant quantitative discipline; OR Advanced degree or designation in a risk management or quantitative discipline and 2 years of experience supporting riskrelated and/or compliancerelated or business control design activities; OR PhD in a risk management or quantitative discipline.

  • Strong familiarity of the issue management lifecycle
  • Proven ability to create and advise on process risks and controls identify emerging risks and issues
  • Proven ability to build strong relationships with business partners and teammates and influence change Proven ability to communicate effectively across the 1st 2nd and 3rd Lines of Defense and build collaborative relationships
  • Experience analyzing writing editing procedural documentation
  • Strong critical thinking organizational and communication skills with ability to work cross collaboratively and functionally
  • US military experience through military service or a military spouse/domestic partner

Compensation range: The salary range for this position is: $77120 $138810.

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
