General Summary:
The Laboratory Manager of our new ambulatory clinic in Schaumburg is responsible for oversight of Chemistry Hematology and Blood Bank testing and operations. The manager provides technical expertise and actively manage staffing budget projects and daily operations of the laboratory. The manager may also perform testing as necessary and work with the Lurie Point of Care team to support point of care testing within clinic areas and our infusion center.
Essential Job Functions:
Provides direct supervision for departmentspecific laboratory staff. Maintains adequate staffing levels and provides technical support as needed.
Responsible for daytoday oversight of laboratory operation and personnel performing testing and reporting test results.
Develops and maintains a quality management system in accordance with the Lurie Childrens quality measurement and improvement plan. Establishes and maintains data collection to monitor the quality of technical services.
Facilitates recruitment and orientation of testing personnel. Routinely evaluates and documents staff performance and competence identifies training needs and provides timely feedback.
Assures that staff competency and performance meets department standards for quality and service and that mandatory education and proficiency testing is completed.
Completes competency testing as applicable. Completes mandatory and continuing education requirements as defined by the position.
Maintains fiscal responsibility relative to capital and operating budget variance analysis and trends in productivity volume acuity and service.
Monitors test performance; ensures resolution of technical problems in accordance with policies and procedures developed by the Laboratory Director and Technical Supervisor. Ensures that test results are not reported until corrective actions are taken and test systems are functioning properly.
Ensures that remedial actions are taken when test systems deviate from the laboratorys established performance specifications.
Assists with selection of methodology establishment/verification of laboratory test performance specifications and establishment of quality control program to monitor ongoing test performance.
Maintains knowledge and utilizes resources to provide consultative educational technical and informational services as needed to families patients and staff.
Ensures enrollment and participation in proficiency testing. Oversees the performance and reporting of proficiency testing; coordinates and documents corrective action as necessary.
Ensure that an approved procedure manual is available to all staff responsible for testing. Facilitates the development and evaluation of new procedures and policies; coordinates the review and revision of laboratory manuals.
Assures effective communication with our customer base regarding specimen requirements tests availability test scheduling etc.
Ensures compliance and assists staff member in complying with governmental accreditation and hospital standards including the College of American Pathologists (CAP) CLIA HCFA OSHA and TJC.
The authority to hire separate promote demote write and administer performance evaluations.
Other job functions as assigned.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree or Masters preferred in a biological or medical science; 5 years minimum laboratory experience with high complexity testing. MT (ASCP) or equivalent certification.
Proven leadership qualities with at least 3 years of supervisory experience preferred.
Excellent communication and leadership skills. Ability to work well in a team environment and with different personalities and educational levels.
Ability to teach and develop communication vehicles. Able to handle a variety of responsibilities simultaneously and without constant direction.

The pay range for this job indicates minimum and maximum targets for the position.
