PARAPROFESSIONAL/HEALTH TECHNICIAN
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma; Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse and the credentials required to be considered Highly Qualified which is an Associates Degree 2 years postsecondary education or completion of a Paraeducator competency credential.
- Language mathematics computer and reasoning skills are essential.
- Ability to move or lift up to 65 pounds unassisted or up to 150 pounds with assistance stoop stand kneel crouch or crawl are all physical requirements of the position.
- A special education paraprofessional must enjoy and be comfortable working with children with special needs and be willing to take direction from the professional staff.
- Complete and maintain certification in First Aid Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and crisis prevention and intervention training (CPI) Actclearances Mandated Reporter Training Certificate (Act 126 and Sexual Misconduct Disclosure Statement (Act 168.
REPORTS TO: Special Education Teacher Building Principal Director of Special Services.
JOB GOAL: To assist the special educator in meeting the needs of learning support students within a system that supports appropriate inclusion.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide monitoring and care of student with healthrelated needs during transportation times to and from school and during the school day.
- Identifying and responding to focal absent drop and Tonicclonic / grand mal seizures follow the medical care plan
- Administer medication
- Self help skill reinforcement including toileting dressing basic hygiene healthy nutrition choices and others as needed.
- Support students Ataxia needs in order to ensure safety in her movement throughout the school.
- Supports the instructional program taught to special needs students by providing practice review and drill.
- Assists in guiding redirecting prompting student behavior.
- Assists in the implementation and charting of behavior management plans and progress toward achievement of educational goals.
- Assists in the preparation of adapted or modified learning materials.
- Assists students in the use of low and hightech assistive devices or other special equipment that may be required
- Assists in monitoring pupil activity during periods of free independent study seat work etc.
- Provides assistance to students in selfhelp skills such as eating dressing and toileting as the need requires.
- Supports the collaborative link between special education and classroom teachers by assisting as a communication liaison between the two.
- Continuing education in Behavior Management Techniques Passive Restraints and other such classes offered at Intermediate Unit etc.
- Performs other reasonable duties as are assigned by the teacher and/or building principal and approved the Director of Special Services for the general wellbeing of the student.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and benefits to be determined in accordance with the negotiated agreement between Crawford Central Board of School Directors and Crawford Central Educational Support Professional Association.
EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Boards policy on evaluation of nonprofessional personnel by the Building Principal
