Job Description

Were currently looking for a highly skilled and motivated Payroll Director to join our corporate team.

As a senior leader within the Accounting team the Director of Payroll Services is responsible for overseeing the strategic and operational management of the organizations payroll processes. This role ensures the accurate processing and recording of payroll while maintaining compliance with all federal state and local regulations. The Director of Payroll Services will lead a highperforming payroll team develop and implement payroll policies and procedures manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders and drive process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.

Summary of Essential Job Functions

  • Strategic Leadership and Team Management:
    • Direct and mentor the Payroll team fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
    • Develop and implement strategic payroll initiatives that align with organizational goals.
    • Collaborate with senior leadership on payrollrelated policies and initiatives.

  • Payroll Oversight:
    • Ensure timely and accurate processing of all payroll cycles including hourly salaried and executive payrolls.
    • Oversee payroll tax compliance including federal state and local regulations.
    • Direct the preparation and review of payroll tax reports W2s and yearend reporting.
    • Manage payroll for complex scenarios including multistate taxation expatriate payroll and employerpaid benefits taxation.

  • Audits and Compliance:
    • Lead periodic internal audits of payroll processes and ensure readiness for external audits.
    • Maintain compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements including wage laws and garnishment procedures.
    • Establish and enforce internal controls to minimize errors and mitigate risks.

  • Process Optimization and Technology:
    • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance payroll accuracy efficiency and scalability.
    • Evaluate and recommend payroll technology solutions to meet organizational needs.
    • Serve as the primary liaison between the payroll function and IT to resolve system issues and implement upgrades.

  • Financial Integration and Reporting:
    • Oversee the reconciliation of payroll accounts and integration with the general ledger.
    • Collaborate with the Accounting team on journal entries labor allocations and financial reporting.
    • Develop and deliver comprehensive payroll and operational reports for executive leadership.

  • Stakeholder Collaboration:
    • Partner with HR to ensure alignment on compensation benefits and compliance initiatives.
    • Provide consultation and guidance to senior leadership on payroll matters including cost forecasting and budgeting.
    • Act as the primary point of contact for external vendors auditors and regulatory agencies.

Abilities Required

  • Leadership and Communication:
    • Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire teams in a fastpaced complex environment.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a proven ability to build relationships across all levels of an organization.
  • Technical Expertise:
    • Extensive experience with payroll processing compliance and accounting in a multistate or global environment.
    • Proficiency in payroll systems and financial software (e.g. ADP Workday or similar platforms).
    • Advanced Excel skills with the ability to create and analyze complex financial models and reports.
  • Problem Solving and Analytical Skills:
    • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with a proven track record of solving complex payroll and compliance issues.
    • Ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining exceptional attention to detail.
  • Compliance Knowledge:
    • Indepth understanding of payroll tax regulations garnishment laws and other compliance requirements.
    • Expertise in handling yearend reporting requirements unclaimed property processing and audit preparation.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance Business Administration or a related field.
  • 7 years of payroll processing and accounting experience including at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • MultiState and multilocation experience strongly preferred.
  • Union experiences helpful.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation strongly preferred.
