Job Description

Youth & Childcare Worker BC Provincial School for the Deaf

Temporary Full time 35 hours/week) TERM 10 month) position (temporary until return of incumbent April 2026

**Proficiency in American Sign Language required.**

The Youth and Child Care Worker as part of an educational team assists in the planning development and delivery of programs which promote the social emotional and personal development of students. The Youth and Child Care Worker assists with the management and assessment of students behaviour to develop and apply appropriate behaviour management strategies. In addition the Youth and Child Care Worker under the direction of an administrator or designate acts as a liaison in the school family and community.

Job Requirements:

  • Completion of a relevant university degree plus two years related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid BC Drivers license (Class 5.
  • Thorough knowledge of a variety of behaviour management strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to employ preventive or interventive behaviour management.
  • Knowledge of current community and agency resources.
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language required.
Job Duties:
  • Works under the direction of a district team that evaluates and monitors the effectiveness of child and youth worker programs and supports.
  • Facilitates positive collaborative partnerships with community agencies that work to address the needs of atrisk and vulnerable children and youth.
  • Implements and adapts the educational plan to meet the individual needs of students.
  • Intervenes in crisis situations and assists in developing and implementing appropriate strategies.
This position is 35 hours/week. Hours of work are MondayFriday 08:3016:00. The hourly rate of pay is $37.17 per hour. Qualified applicants should apply by submitting a resume and cover letter in ONE PDF document via email to:
