Torch Technologies a 100 employeeowned business dedicated to providing superior research development and engineering services to the Department of Defense is seeking a motivated and talented Junior Firmware Hardware Design Engineer to join our growing Technology Integration and Prototyping Center (TIPC) team.

Our electronics design team within TIPC specializes in the development integration and testing of advanced hardware solutions for aerospace and military systems including manned/unmanned air and ground vehicles missile systems radars and space applications. The selected candidate will contribute to the design and development of embedded systems from concept through integration testing and delivery.

This position offers an excellent opportunity for someone with 3 years of experience in firmware and hardware design to work in a collaborative technically driven environment solving complex problems and contributing to missioncritical programs.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design develop and optimize embedded firmware for microcontrollerbased systems.
• Collaborate with hardware engineers to define system architecture and ensure seamless hardwaresoftware integration.
• Develop and maintain firmware for realtime embedded systems including bootloaders device drivers and applicationlevel code.
• Implement and optimize communication protocols such as SPI I2C UART USB CAN and Ethernet.
• Conduct debugging testing and validation of firmware to ensure system reliability and compliance with applicable standards.
• Develop documentation for firmware architecture design decisions and test procedures.
• Participate in systemlevel design reviews and provide technical input on hardware and firmware improvements.
• Design develop modify and evaluate complex hardware components and systems in support of embedded solutions.
• Lead technical investigations involving new or modified material component or process specifications and requirements.
• Contribute to and consolidate design elements across hardware development efforts for assigned projects.
• Evaluate vendor capabilities as needed to support program requirements.
• May provide work leadership and technical guidance to junior engineers or support personnel as needed.

• Bachelors or Masters degree in Electrical Engineering Computer Engineering or a related field.
• 5 years of experience in embedded firmware development.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secretlevel security clearance US Citizenship is required.
• Experience with FPGA programming (VHDL/Verilog) is a plus.
• Experience with microcontrollers (ARM Cortex PIC AVR etc. and embedded development tools.
• Proficiency in C/C for embedded systems.
• Familiarity with RTOSbased and baremetal firmware development.
• Strong understanding of lowlevel hardware interfaces and debugging tools (oscilloscopes logic analyzers JTAG etc..
• Experience with version control systems (Git SVN etc..
• Excellent problemsolving skills and the ability to work independently and in a team environment.
• Collaborate with crossfunctional teams to ensure the successful integration of electrical systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in PCB design and layout
• Knowledge of wireless communication protocols (Bluetooth WiFi LoRa Zigbee) is desirable.
• Familiarity with cybersecurity best practices in embedded systems.
