Mesa seeks a Physical Substation Designer for our Power Delivery Substation group with the following skills knowledge and abilities:

  • Possess an understanding of high voltage transmission substation outdoor equipment as well as be willing to learn the Clients standards and practices.
  • Ability to identify analyze and solve technical problems related to substation design.
  • Ability to work independently with direction while not hesitating to ask questions when needed.
  • Possess aptitude for developing a strong working relationship with Senior Management Program Manager Project Manager Group Leads and design staff.
  • Possess aptitude for developing a strong working relationship with the Client.
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Possess willingness to develop promote and comply with Mesa quality requirements.
  • Possess willingness to develop promote and comply with Mesa safety requirements.
  • Possess working knowledge of computers and software such as AutoCAD Microsoft Office Suite and software used for specific technical applications within the group.

Education/Experience/Licensure:

  • Associates or better in Engineering Technology or related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of 4 years of progressively responsible experience in 69kV to 500kV substation physical design is required.
  • Experience in generation plant switchyard physical design is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Work under the direction of the Physical Group Lead.
  • Work with a team to complete substation physical design projects to meet client standards and practices.
  • Maintain good quality and efficiency while developing deliverables such as: General Arrangements Equipment Plans Elevations Sections Control House Layouts Grounding analysis/design Switchgear design Conduit and Cable design Creation of Bills of Material etc. utilizing AutoCAD.
  • Foster strong customer relationships through communications and support.
  • Estimate and assist in the preparation of bid packages.
  • Attend scoping meetings as requested for projects.
  • Complete assignments within budget and schedule with a high degree of accuracy to provide quality deliverables.
  • Mentor other designers/engineers in group to increase knowledge of physical substation design.
  • Check/review other personnel work for accuracy and adherence to client/national standards.
  • Independently evaluate select and apply engineering principles and practices relevant to the project requirements. Share updates with team and leads to continually improve communications and quality.
  • Promote a strong safety culture within the team and advocate the incorporation of safe work practices into all activities.
  • Work with the Physical Group Lead and Program Manager to identify potential areas of engineering process and/or procedure improvements.
