Position Summary
The Department of Genetics of the LSUHSC New Orleans School of Medicine is seeking a Medical Geneticist to lead a clinical genetics program. This is an academic faculty position and rank will be at the level of Associate Professor or Professor; faculty appointment commensurate with experience. The successful candidate will: 1 establish a clinical program offering genetics consults and when indicated molecular genomic testing to adult patients in consultation with other specialties (e.g. oncology cardiology neurology radiology pathology); 2 interact with the LSU LCMC Health Cancer Center in the context of cancer multidisciplinary teams. When the teams identify patients in need of genetics referrals they will refer patients to the Center for Precision Medicine CPM . The CPM will screen the patients and determine which followup tests are needed if any; 3 establish a highrisk clinic for breast care patients at high risk for breast cancer. This outpatient clinic will follow highrisk patients in cooperation with other specialties (radiology oncology pathology) estimate lifetime risk of breast cancer provide genetics counseling in cases with significant familial histories and/or relevant molecular findings and determine when molecular tests are indicated; 4 coordinate pharmacogenomics tests offered to LSUHSC NO patients and outside referrals through outside vendors; 5 lead a successful clinical research program in medical genomics through collaborations with other clinical and preclinical investigators. Noting the above duties the candidate will split his/her time between clinical 60 and research 40 activities.
