We believe in the resiliency of Vancouvers youth who are unhoused and streetinvolved. We assist youth under the age of 25 to access the services they deserve to thrive. Our teams strive to create spaces and build connections with youth who are facing the challenges that come with street life substance use mental health concerns disconnection from their communities marginalization and trauma. Directions Youth Services Centre is BCs only 24/7/365 dropin centre for youth and is committed to being a community leader in harm reduction work and operating lowbarrier spaces where all youth are welcome. Working within the mission vision values and personcentred philosophy of the Agency this IN PERSONevening volunteer position supports the dropin centres Food Program Supervisor helping prep and serve nightly meals sorting food donations clean the kitchen and wash dishes. About our Opportunity: Volunteer Hours:Evenings 6:00 pm 9:00 pmwith dinner served at 8:00 pm. Some flexibility with start time is available. We are looking for volunteers who can make a minimum 6month commitment. Location:1138 Burrard Street Vancouver BC Directions Youth Services Centre Posting End Date: Posting will remain open until filled What you bring: Education Training Experience - Experience working with youth preferably in support of youth who use substances face mental health challenges and/ or are unhoused is an asset.
- Experience working in a kitchen food service or customer service environment is an asset.
- Lived experience is considered an asset.
- Current First Aid Certificate and NonViolent Crisis Intervention Training an asset
Knowledge Skills Abilities - Support the Food Program staff with meal preparation inventory upkeep kitchen organization pursuing a zerowaste environment and keeping the kitchen clean hygienic and tidy at all times.
- Building positive relationships with youth who access the dropin centre and being a positive mature role model.
- Maintaining accurate attendance records of your volunteer hours and reporting concerns to Food Program Supervisor.
- Help sort and store food donations.
- Adhere to all program and agency policies procedures and safety standards; including but not limited to confidentiality policy. Reports concerns to Centre staff in a timely manner; including legally required concerns regarding harm to self or others.
Additional Requirements - Successful completion of criminal record check
- Proof of Covid19 vaccination status will be required
