Purpose Statement
The job of Custodian is done for the purpose/s of providing custodial services at an assigned site or area; ensuring an attractive sanitary and safe environment for students staff and visitors; performing a variety of special cleaning operations; overseeing the preparation of facilities for classroom activities and campusevents; supporting assigned custodians in the performance of their assignments; and ensuring thatassignments are completed in a safe proper and timely manner.

Skills Knowledge and Abilities
SKILLS are required to perform single technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skillbased competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating equipment and materials used in industrial maintenance; adhering to safety practices; and preparing and maintaining accurate records.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math including calculations using fractions percents and/or ratios; read and follow instructions; and understand complex multistep written and oral instructions. Specific knowledgebased competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: methods of industrial cleaning including floor and carpet; basic tools for minor repairs; and safety practices and procedures.
ABILITY is required to schedule activities meetings and/or events; gather and/or collate data and consider a number of factors when using the equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others; work with data utilizing specific defined processes; and operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals; work with similar types of data and utilize a variety of jobrelated equipment. Some problem solving may be required to identify issues and select action plans. Problemsolving with data may require independent interpretation and problemsolving with equipment is moderate to significant. Specific abilitybased competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adapting to changing work priorities; and meeting deadlines and schedules.
Responsibility
Responsibilities include: working under direct supervision using standardized routines; providing information and/or advising others; and operating within a defined budget. The utilization of some resources from other work units is often required to perform the jobs functions. There is a continual opportunity to have some impact on the organizations services.
Working Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting carrying pushing and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; frequent stooping kneeling crouching and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 5 sitting 75 walking and 20 standing. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and under conditions with some exposure to the risk of injury and/or illness.
ExperienceJob related experience is required.
EducationHigh school diploma or equivalent.
