Job Description

Description: Fayerweather is seeking a fulltime Learning Specialist for Grades 3 and 4 to support students using a pushin model. This role focuses on working with students with identified learning disabilities including those with Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs) from their district schools. The Learning Specialist will also collaborate with classroom teachers to adapt curriculum and instruction to meet diverse learning needs. The person in this position is responsible for creating a flexible program and learning environment that provides specialized instruction for students with disabilities. The Learning Specialist role is an important position at Fayerweather Street School as the role supports the learning of both students and teachers. The position will report directly to the Assistant Head of School to take responsibility for supporting student learning within the grades 3 and 4 classrooms. In addition this position will be a member of the Educational Leadership Team which helps to oversee and advance the schools academic program.The Learning Specialist will develop learning plans monitor student progress and support students needing learning assistance. Responsibilities include organizing child study meetings tiering students conducting assessments and documenting progress. The role also involves communicating with parents leading conferences and collaborating with gradelevel teams on instruction and curriculum planning.Main Responsibilities:Provide student support through small group instruction primarily within and occasionally outside the classroom with a focus on remediation sometimes accommodation and developing effective executive function competencies study/academic habits and subjectspecific skills (i.e. math and reading strategies)Coteach lessons with 3rd and 4thgrade teachersCollaborate with teachers to develop effective wholegroup practices and smallgroup interventionsMake recommendations for strategies and interventions to strengthen learningSupport teachers in differentiating plans for students based on their unique learning profiles so all students are adequately challenged and engagedOversee and/or administer appropriate assessments to determine the effectiveness of instructionCollaborate with gradelevel teams to assist and support effective curriculum and instructional planningCreate learning support plans for individual students based on neuropsychological evaluations and/or IEP recommendationsProvide progress monitoring and communication with parents Perform duties including recess coverage lunch duty and creating curricular displays Attend weekly staff meetingsAttend weekly Educational Leadership Team meetingsParticipate in admissions programming as neededOther duties as assignedSkills and Qualifications:Working at FSSDemonstrate knowledge of the philosophy of progressive educationDemonstrate strong cultural awareness and responsiveness as well as experience supporting diversity equity and inclusion initiativesTeaching at FSSDemonstrate enthusiasm flexibility and a desire to collaborate with colleagues both in your team and across disciplinesExhibit excellent communication with parents to provide timely and appropriate feedback regarding student progressDemonstrate a growth mindset when it comes to engaging with relevant and missiondriven professional learningEmbrace feedback and constructive criticism in the spirit of continuous improvementDemonstrate strong attention to detail coupled with the ability to think strategicallyDemonstrate knowledge of the IEP and 504 processDemonstrate understanding of grades 34 instruction and assessment strategiesDemonstrate knowledge of assistive technologies curriculum design and a working knowledge of assessments (Assessments used at FSS: Track My Progress KTEA TOWL WRAT)Fayerweather Street School:Fayerweather Street School welcomes candidates who will add to the diversity of our community and who have demonstrated a commitment to equity inclusion and belonging in their teaching and learning.
