Position Overview
Responsible for the design implementation maintenance and evaluation of identified health and safety programs including the complex analysis of data resulting from these programs. Manages and oversees existing health and safety programs to reduce risk in the work environment. Recommends and designs new workplace health and safety programs relative to risk management and hazard abatement. Develops action plans to control health risks and hazards to all employees in the workforce. Creates modifies and submits revisions to safety manuals and procedures as appropriate.
The incumbent provides technical guidance and direction to other Company employees in support of producing high quality timely and costeffective solutions to ensure compliance with applicable Federal State and local regulations. This position requires partnering with groups such as but not limited to those involved in training and performance assessment to identify learning and development gaps identify solutions and to foster development of all employees relative to health and safety issues. The person in this role reports to the PJM Fossil Fleet Safety Manager.
The ideal candidate possesses excellent written and verbal communications skills and has demonstrated strong abilities in building relationships with peers workforce and leadership.
This is an onsite position based at the Martins Creek plant in Bangor Pennsylvania with occasional travel to other Talen facilities in the midAtlantic region.
Primary Responsibilities
Serves as a technical expert and provides technical support to internal and external stakeholders regarding compliance with health and safety regulations.
Supports programs to enhance the public image of corporate health and safety performance through education activities and other actions that encourage responsible behavior.
Organizes and conducts health and safety studies.
Performs trending analysis to improve health and safety performance by gathering data developing reports identifying gaps evaluating risk and implementing process improvements and/or corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.
Evaluates designs and conducts training and materials in support of health and safety initiatives.
Actively engages with entire organization; coaches and mentors all levels of personnel on critical skills behaviors and techniques that build and sustain a zero injury/illness culture.
Provides governance and quality oversight of health and safety programs.
Recommends changes in procedures processes design or equipment.
Keeps abreast of federal state and local occupational health and safety regulations reviews technical literature.
Participates in auditsfor compliance to occupational health and safety programs.
Participates in industrial safety conferences and benchmarks top performing organizations for program improvements.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Safety Engineering Occupational Safety and Health Industrial Hygiene or other equivalent technical field.
Preference will be given to candidates with 15 years of work experience in industrial hygiene or safety.
Experience withinterpretation ofhealth and safety regulations.
Experiencerapidly organizing and analyzing complex and diverse topics and situations as well as large amounts of data.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in a power plant or other industrial setting with 24x7 operations.
Experience engaging with a union workforce.
Work Environment
Both office and plant / outdoors. Occasionally requires working in extreme temperatures. Requires ability to stand/walk for extended periods of time; climb ladders and scaffolds; work from heights and/or on grating. Occasional lifting may be required up to 40 pounds.
