About the Role
You will provide evidencebased best practice clinical assessment and orthotic interventionfor clients referred to Polio Services Victoria (PSV). You will work as part of the PSV specialist clinic which comprises a multidisciplinary allied health team and Rehabilitation Consultant offering comprehensive assessment and management of polio related health needs for clients with a history of polio residing in the state of Victoria.
Provide high quality orthotic consultancy and gait analysis to clients attending PSV in Metro Melbourne or Regional Victoria.
Provide orthotic assessment orthotic referral and orthotic service planning for PSV clients
Effectively manage the waitlist for PSV clients requiring orthotic interventions
Work collaboratively with the PSV team to provide ongoing education and advice to clients and health professionals in regard to the orthotic management for people with a history of polio.
Classifications for this position will range from CP10 CP13 $103885.60 $109824.00 per annum pro rata).

The Health Independence Program (HIP) consists of multidisciplinary outpatient rehabilitation programs complex care services and specialist clinics operating across various campuses of St Vincents Hospital Melbourne. Position Description
1. Local work environment
The Health Independence Program (HIP) was introduced by the DH&HS in 2008 bringing together the four previously separate service streams of Subacute Ambulatory Care Post Acute Care Hospital Admission Risk Program and Residential In Reach under common guidelines. HIP consists of integrated hub sites located across several locations including in Fitzroy Kew North Richmond and Fairfield. The intent of HIP is to deliver improved outcomes for clients and to support hospital demand management and flow through delivering integrated and coordinated care to clients across the hospital and community interface reducing duplication and fragmentation of services and ensuring client centred care planning. This position may be required to work at any of the HIP hub sites / programs. This will be at the discretion of the HIP manager and will take into consideration appropriate skills and training.
Within the HIP Disability and Pain Stream Polio Services Victoria (PSV) delivers a multidisciplinary outpatient service from St. Vincents Fitzroy campus with six mandated regional service delivery clinics in Victoria annually. PSV was established by the Victorian Government in early 1998 to provide ongoing expertise and support for people who have had polio. This includes specialist multidisciplinary assessment provision of information and education to health providers and clients liaison with other health care providers and clients to develop patientcentred plans delivery of polio specific specialist care.
Clinicians are required to work across a number of settings across the continuum of care including clients residence community settings the HIP Clinics and regional Victorian clinics. Services may be delivered in a group or individual setting.
2. Position Purpose
To provide evidencebased best practice clinical assessment and orthotic interventionfor clients referred to Polio Services Victoria a multidisciplinary specialist clinic offering comprehensive assessment and management of polio related health needs for clients with a history of polio residing in the state of Victoria.
Your main clinical work will be to:
- Provide high quality Orthotic consultancy and gait analysis to clients attending PSV in Metro Melbourne or Regional Victoria.
- Provide orthotic assessment orthotic referral and orthotic service planning for people with a history of polio
- Effectively manage the waitlist for PSV clients requiring orthotic interventions
- Work collaboratively with the PSV team to provide ongoing education and advice to clients and health professionals in regard to the orthotic management of people with a history of polio.
- Implement and modify a referral pathway for orthotic manufacture for all noncomplex clients (includes internal to PSV & external referral)
- Utilise appropriate external providers to facilitate timely provision of complex orthoses where indicated.
- Ensure quality of orthotic management is maintained when utilising external manufacturers.
- Develop skills and knowledge of internal and external health professionals in managing clients with a history of polio.
Leadership
- Lead and coordinate the orthotics discipline within PSV.
- Liaise with the Chief Prosthetist / Orthotist re: professional and operational requirements concerned with manufacturing in the P&O workshop area.
- Planning delegation and oversight of manufacturing work to the P&O Technician
- Ensure work conducted in the P&O workshop is in line with OH&S requirements
- Provision of supervision to Grade 2 PSV P&O and tertiary students
- Display advanced organisational skills through efficient time management professional responsibility and accountability
- Management of the PSV orthotics waitlist
- Support expansion of the prosthetic and orthotic NDIS program within SVHM
Service Provision
- Provide expert clinical advice and care for clients referred to PSV. This includes timely and effective assessment management and a referral pathway for clients
- Provide NDIS funded orthotics services to NDIS participants who select SVHM for their orthotics service provision.
- Collaborate and communicate effectively and professionally with multidisciplinary team members HIP colleagues key stakeholders and external service providers (e.g. SWEP NDIS) for ongoing service provision and/or funding.
- Ensure timely and comprehensive documentation in patient Medical Record on day of intervention in line with SVHM policy and NDIS documentation requirements.
- Provide expertise and written reports to assist clients transitioning into the NDIS.
- Participate in clinical supervision with the Grade 4 P&O and operational supervision with PSV Team Leader
- Provide supervision of the PSV Grade 2 orthotist
- Maintain accurate department records and statistics
- Follow SVHM protocols and where appropriate NDIS service provision protocols for timely billing of components and interventions.
Research / Education:
- Actively participate in quality improvement activities
- Collaborate with the P&O department in supporting tertiary student placements
- Prepare and deliver education concerning PSV and/or the orthotics management of polio to medical and allied health staff. This includes education within SVHM and to external services such as health professionals in regional locations where presentations are delivered during regional clinic visits
- Contribute to policies procedures and workflows that reflect current standards of practice
- Participate in PSV research activities
- Participate and contribute to P&O department training and education program where appropriate
General
- Perform duties of the position to best of their ability and to a standard acceptable to SVHM

Clinical Quality and Safety
- Attend clinical orientation upon commencement

- Maintain clinical registration and any required indemnity cover
- Always work within approved scope of practice under supervision by more senior clinical staff as appropriate.

- Complete annual clinical competencies

Health and Safety

Essential Registration License or Qualification requirements
- Bachelor of Prosthetics & Orthotics (or equivalent)
- Eligibility for membership to the Australian Orthotics Prosthetic Association (AOPA)

Other Essential Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years experience working as a clinical prosthetist/orthotist covering all aspects of client treatment including assessment prescription manufacture fitting review and adjustment of orthotics devices
- Clinical experience in the area of polio and/or complex neuromuscular pathologies
- The ability to identify plan and implement and evaluate new strategies
- Lead quality improvement activities
- Commitment to the values and health care philosophy of the St. Vincents
- Understand and support of the principles of HIP continuum of care for clients and portray these values across all treating sites as required
- Highly developed skills of organisation prioritisation planning and problem solving
- Demonstrated ability to work in an interdisciplinary team

- In depth knowledge of the National Disability Insurance Scheme or willingness to learn and develop in this area
