Job Description

The READ Center supports the academic success and retention of UWO students through academic skills courses peer academic coaching learning assistance workshops and targeted classroom interventions. The READ Center programs and courses typically serve over 2000 students annually and operate primarily during the ninemonth academic year. The primary responsibility of this position is the instruction of reading and/or study strategy courses including the development of curriculum and the assessment of student learning outcomes. Other responsibilities include departmental outreach development and presentation of learning strategy workshops and creation of learning assistance programming for a wide range of student needs.

Responsibilities

Instruction of creditbased Academic Skills Courses 80

Teach at least 12 credits of undergraduate reading and/or study strategy courses each semester. These courses include but are not limited to Learning Strategies for College Success College Reading Strategies Strategies for Academic Recovery Strategies for Online Learning and Applied Study Skills (paired with a general education course.
Develops and designs curriculum using knowledge of educational theory student development and highimpact practices
Engage in the assessment of student learning outcomes
Meet student learning needs by incorporating a variety of teaching methods and assessments
Give students prompt clear feedbackboth written and verbalto support their growth and progress
Teach courses at various times throughout the day to accommodate departmental and institutional scheduling needs
Review evaluate and recommend textbooks and other learning materials

Assist in the development of learning assistance programming for students of all abilities; collaborate with faculty and the campus community as needed to achieve meaningful outcomes
Develop and facilitate in the training and supervision of peer academic coaches
Participate in strategic planning and program assessment
Assist with marketing outreach and promoting department programs
Participates and collaborates within departments school and university committees and meetings

QualificationsRequired: Masters degree in education reading/literacy secondary English education counseling or related field
Teaching experience in secondary and/or postsecondary education
Ability to teach online or hybrid courses in addition to facetoface coursesPreferred: Minimum of three 3 years experience teaching in secondary and/or postsecondary education
Experience with curricular development and assessment of student learning outcomes
Demonstrated ability to use a variety of studentcentered teaching methods
Proficiency with standard instructional technologies and learning management systems
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students in both individual and group settings
Demonstrated sensitivity to the needs and characteristics of all students
Written and oral communication skills that are clear effective and professional
Demonstrated capacity and enthusiasm for teaching students especially first and secondyear studentsTo Apply:
