The Opportunity:
The Department of Physical Sciences and Mathematics in the College of Sciences at West Liberty University seeks to fill a fulltime tenuretrack faculty position in mathematics. The successful candidate will be qualified to teach courses in data science as well as general studies mathematics. Candidates should have a commitment to excellence in teaching scholarship and service. Recent research in a dataenabled science is a requirement with special consideration given to applicants who have research experience in biomedical science biomedical mathematics or bioinformatics. Startup research funding is available with this opportunity.
Essential Functions of the position:
- Teach 24 credit hours per academic year
- Curriculum development
- Conduct research in data science
- Student advisement
- Participate in activities related to student recruitment and retention
Education & Experience Requirements:
- Doctoral degree in mathematics statistics or a closely related field required
- Record of peerreviewed research in any dataenabled science required
- Graduate coursework in statistics or machine learning required
- Experience writing code in Python and/or R preferred
- Machine learning using artificial neural networks preferred
- Experience interacting remotely with high performance computing clusters preferred
- Publication(s) in biomedical science/mathematics and/or bioinformatics
