Assistant Head of School North Birkbeck PRU

Full Time Permanent Position

Scale: Leadership L5 L

Closing Date: 25th April 2025 noon

Interview Date: 1st & 2nd May 2025

Start Date: September 2025

Hawkswood Group is seeking an Assistant Head for the North Birkbeck Road Pupil Referral Unit a new satellite site of Burnside Secondary PRU. Burnside is a provision with a good Ofsted judgement and commitment to inclusive and safe learning for its pupils. We are seeking a motivated leader who can support the Headteacher in delivering an effective and efficient learning environment that enables pupils to achieve and improve their education outcomes offering mainly short term intervention places.

The successful candidate will be required to ensure high quality personalised education for all children and young people in the Hawkswood Group is secured and that high standards and a range of outcomes are achieved. The successful candidate will also be expected to build positive relationships with schools LA officers services and agencies through collaboration and partnership working in order to improve outcomes for children and young people in Waltham Forest.

We are seeking a strong leader to build on existing successes across the Hawkswood group and someone who:

  • Will support the Headteacher in establishing a school that effectively meets the needs of all pupils and ensures that clear interventions are implemented to support successful transition back to mainstream.
  • Will ensure a positive solution focused approach in all situations
  • Has a breadth of experience and knowledge across the secondary phase.
  • Is innovative and experienced at managing change
  • Is resilient inspirational and nurturing
  • Demonstrates exceptional work ethic
  • Has outstanding interpersonal skills
  • Can provide strategic support to all secondary schools/academies in LBWF
  • Has been successful in engaging hardtoreach families
  • Remains calm under pressure
  • Has a trauma informed and restorative approach
