About Shady Hill School: Since 1915 Shady Hill a school of approximately 530 students (PreK Grade 8 and 90 faculty has been a leader in progressive education. Shady Hill is a deeply missiondriven school. We seek to develop independent joyful and curious learners who respect their own accomplishments and those of others. Therefore we seek to hire teachers who demonstrate a mindset and skill set that prioritizes cultural competence equity and justice in their practice with students and in their work with colleagues.A hallmark of a Shady Hill education is the Central Subject methodology. Students in Grades 38 engage in an assigned Central Subject an indepth integrated study of a particular time or people in history. The yearlong study which emphasizes strong content the use of primary sources understanding of multiple perspectives acquisition of essential skills and selfdiscovery forms the core of our curriculum. Gradeheads (classroom teachers) are responsible for developing content and implementing instruction in social studies/history language arts and mathematics working closely with the performing arts and visual arts faculty to integrate these disciplines. Shady Hill School is also a teacher training institution. Its longstanding Teacher Training Center which brings apprentice teachers to campus each year prepares talented people for careers in education and allows each faculty member the opportunity to be a mentor and meaningful contributor to the teaching field. Because of the schools commitment to teacher training the school seeks teachers with certification or a demonstrated interest in working towards certification when hired by Shady Hill School.About the position: Shady Hill School is seeking a learnercentered justiceoriented parttime 50 Librarian to join our team beginning in Fall 2025. The Shady Hill Library is an essential resource for our students faculty and apprentice teachers. Librarians provide weekly instruction as well as reference readers advisory and curricular support for the entire school community. Our library includes a collection of over 30000 books and is heavily used with over 20000 materials circulating each year. This is a parttime 50 salaried inperson 10month position with benefits. Specific schedule to be determined based on candidate availability as well as theclass schedule. Responsibilities:
  • Work with the Library team to teach Beginners through 8th grade
  • Build collaborative relationships with faculty staff and apprentices
  • Offer readers advisory services for the school community
  • Update and maintain curriculum maps
  • Perform circulation desk duties and various library administrative tasks
  • Assist with general collection maintenance and processing of new books
  • Work with parent volunteers
  • Engage in professional development to enhance inclusive teaching and leadership practices. The school offers extensive professional development opportunities including yearly trips to the People of Color Conference for BIPOC employees
In addition the Librarian will share in responsibilities associated with the position or with membership on the faculty such as weekly lunch and recess supervision or other duties and participating in special events and outreach programs. Faculty members are expected to attend opening and closing meetings (August/September and June) and other faculty meetings as scheduled as well as to serve on committees of the faculty as needed.
