MEDIA RELATIONS ASSISTANT

Parttime

Bridgewater College seeks a Media Relations Assistant in the Office of Marketing & Communications (OMC). This is a 32hourperweek temporary position from May through August 2025.

Reporting to the Editor and Media Relations Director the Media Relations Assistant will support the Colleges marketing and communication initiatives and be responsible for several shortterm administrative projects. The Media Relations Assistant will also write stories for the College news website and proof/copyedit stories press releases and other College communications. It is important that the Media Relations Assistant be a strong writer eager to learn new technology and comfortable communicating with faculty staff and the public.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Communicate with College faculty and staff to update the Speakers Bureau and Faculty Experts listing on the College website using WordPress
  • Write and distribute press releases about student awards academic achievements and graduation using Merit
  • Monitor and track media coverage generated on behalf of the College using Critical Mention
  • Compile and factcheck Class Notes and Memorials
  • Research and write feature stories and profiles for the BC News website
  • Copyedit and proof stories press releases and other College communications
  • Communicate with College departments to research and compile a calendar of 202526 concerts theatre performances and other events
  • Print and organize prior press releases for archiving with the Librarys Special Collections
  • Other tasks as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Collegelevel coursework in communication studies public relations marketing journalism or related field
  • Writing and editing skills and excellent attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong timemanagement and organizational skills
  • Willingness to learn new Media Relations tools including Critical Mention Merit Raisers Edge and WordPress
  • Sense of humor and collegiality

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors degree in communication studies public relations marketing journalism or related field
  • Ability to copyedit and apply formatting and style guidelines (such as AP) to a variety of documents
  • Experience using content management or database tools
  • Track record of working independently and as part of a team
