Certified Professional Ergonomist or Engineering Physical Therapy or Occupational Therapy background with specialization in field of ergonomics required.
Masters Degree in related field. While a variety of clinical backgrounds may be appropriate licensure/certification/registration relevant to each discipline will be required.
Certification in ergonomics preferred.
A minimum of five years of ergonomics experience with a preference for candidate with consulting experience in developing and providing ergonomic services.

General Overview:
The Occupational Health Ergonomics Specialist reports to the PHS Ergonomics Program Manager and utilizes a comprehensive range of technical and analytical skills to assist with ergonomic program development training and intervention services Brigham and Womens Hospital (BWH) and Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). Implementation of programs will be planned in collaboration with PHS Occupational Health Services and the PHS Ergonomics Program Manager. The Occupational Health Ergonomics Specialist is responsible for providing: 1. detailed ergonomic assessments to help prioritize departments requiring review and ergonomic intervention; 2. job task evaluations to detect potential risk factors and assess for hazards; 3. effective communication of identified ergonomic recommendations/modifications to employees and supervisors; 4. consultation to Occupational Health Services staff in developing and expanding ergonomic programs based upon the occupational health needs of the organization; 5. training and education of employees and supervisors in ergonomic concepts to support their role and minimize the risk of workrelated injury and illness; and 6. completion of special projects deemed necessary for advancement of the Ergonomics Program. The activities performed by the Occupational Health Ergonomic Specialist will be conducted with the objective of reducing work related injuries and illnesses and ensuring compliance with applicable Federal State and local regulations and Partners Health Care System policy.
Responsibilities:
The Occupational Health Ergonomic Specialist conducts comprehensive ergonomic assessments of work areas utilizing employee hazard exposure data ergonomic hazard measurement tools employee surveys observations and interviews. The Occupational Health Ergonomic Specialist analyzes Workers Compensation injury data to identify potential problems and trends; recommends appropriate engineering or work process modifications to prevent worker illness or injury; summarizes findings in written reports and provides followup assessment of ergonomic recommendations. The Occupational Health Ergonomic Specialist demonstrates a working knowledge of ergonomics biomechanics epidemiology and research techniques applicable in an acute healthcare environment and is familiar with OSHA Standards Workers Compensation Programs JCAHO Regulations and ADA Job Accommodation Requirements.
The Occupational Health Ergonomic Specialist utilizes principles of ergonomics to provide solutions for a wide variety of problems where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. The Occupational Health Ergonomic Specialist selects methods and techniques for obtaining solutions; maintains knowledge of pertinent research in the area of ergonomics and related fields and collaborates with BWH and MGH departments to evaluate new ergonomic products and work environment or workspace designs for employees.
The Occupational Health Ergonomic Specialist develops and delivers training classes in ergonomic concepts customized to emphasize particular tasks or work areas and provides information to employees about preventive and corrective ergonomic modifications. The Occupational Health Ergonomic Specialist supports all management levels within the organization with education and consultation regarding ergonomics and related aspects of health productivity and employee relations.
The Occupational Health Ergonomic Specialist plans and implements ergonomic programs independently or collaboratively with other members of the occupational health staff. The Occupational Health Ergonomic Specialist exercises an ability to assess and anticipate occupational health risks throughout the organization by analyzing data to determine employee groups at risk and utilizes a variety of computer skills to extract information from various databases and to produce relevant reports for Occupational Health and all management levels within BWH and MGH. The Occupational Health Ergonomic Specialist utilizes a full range of written and verbal communication techniques and creates educational materials highlighting ergonomic issues.
The Occupational Health Ergonomic Specialist promotes teamwork and builds relationships within the Occupational Health Services and throughout BWH and MGH especially with other members of the health and safety infrastructure and consults to a wide range of staff on issues related to ergonomics within each organization.
The Occupational Health Ergonomic Specialist maintains appropriate documentation reports and databases to facilitate review of occupational risk for individual employees and BWH and MGH departments. The Occupational Health Ergonomic Specialist gathers and analyzes outcome measures for the purpose of organizational surveillance and Ergonomics program review and development.
