Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Under the supervision of the Transportation Supervisor operate a school bus and/or a special education bus in all weather conditions. Transport students and other authorized persons on regular school routes and on other extracurricular activity field trips. Within this general framework specific assignments will vary.

Route #18 is Vanasse Greenwood Loop and Mingo Mountain 3.5 hours per day

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Drive a school bus on scheduled routes and/or trips in support of district approved activities.
  • Operate a school bus in accordance with the laws of the State of Washington and policies promulgated by the Superintendent of Public Instruction.
  • Appropriately manage student behavior as related to safety and student rules.
  • Report unsafe acts or conditions in writing which require the attention of any person other than the driver.
  • Service inspect and clean school buses and related equipment regularly and at yearend as required by state and district or departmental policy.
  • Perform required operational and safety inspections of the school bus and all related equipment.
  • Complete forms reports records timesheets and accident reports legibly and accurately.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff students parents and community members.
  • Maintain confidentiality and display ethical behavior.
  • Monitor and replace fuel.
  • Perform basic first aid as appropriate including CPR.
  • Assist ill or physically impaired students as needed.
  • Perform other school bus driver related duties as directed.

ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum age of twentyone.
  • Valid Washington State drivers license with intermediate passenger and air brake
  • endorsements.
  • Valid first aid card.
  • Current medical certificate as required by law.
  • Successful completion of school bus driver training programs and courses established
  • by the Superintendent of Public Instruction and/or the district.
  • High school graduate or equivalent.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

A person working in this position will exert 35 to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly while carrying pushing and/or pulling to move objects. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; some stooping kneeling and/or crouching; and significant fine finger dexterity. The employee may also be required to work at elevated heights and climb ladders. The job is performed under conditions with exposure to risk of injury and/or ordinary infectious diseases carried by students.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT and Salary:
A typical school year consists of 180 days plus 10 holidays September through June of each school year. The individual number of days may vary by position as defined within the CBA.

The salary range for the position is: Min $22.11 Max $ 29.30. Salary placement will be at step 1 on the scale for the position unless otherwise noted within the contract. Each employee shall accumulate twelve 12 days of sick leave per year. An employee employed less than a full work year shall be entitled to a proportionate part of the sick leave allowance. A maximum of three 3 days of annual leave are provided for all employees based on the employees scheduled employment hours per day to be used for an absence during work hours or to be accumulated for the purpose of cash out.

Employees anticipated to work more than 630 hours per year will be eligible for Benefits through the School Employees Benefits Board (SEBB) Standard benefits include Medical Dental Vision Life Insurance and LongTerm Disability. Positions anticipated to work 70 hours or more per month for at least 5 months over a 12month period are eligible for Retirement through the State Department of Retirement Services.

Verification of identity and United States work authorization must be completed before employment commences. The successful candidate for this position must be fingerprinted. Employment is contingent upon clearance by the Washington State Patrol and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
