Summary of Job Duties:
The Department of Theatre in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas invites applications for a tenuretrack Assistant Professor of Theatre to start in August 2025. This is a standard ninemonth faculty appointment. Summer appointments are possible depending upon funding and enrollment. We seek a candidate with expertise in Theatre History and/or Theatre Education as well as the potential or record of a strong and developing national reputation achieved through compelling research and/or creative record. Candidates from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
Regular reliable and nondisruptive attendance is an essential job duty as is the ability to create and maintain collegial harmonious working relationships with others.
Duties:
Regularly teaching courses from among the following areas: Script Analysis Theatre History Theatre Education. Teaching may also include appreciation courses and/or a secondary focus area.
Active pursuit of a research/creative agenda leading to published scholarship professional publications juried presentations and/or professional creative work.
Service to the department university regional and national organizations are expected.
ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Theatre provides a professional training program dedicated to carefully nurturing a select group of theatre artists. Expert faculty members mentor students in classes as well as in onetoone settings. Students are provided with a full range of learning opportunities including concentrations in acting costume design directing lighting design playwriting and scene design. Learn more at

Minimum Qualifications:
With submitted materials the candidate must demonstrate
Ph.D. in Theatre History Dramatic Literature Dramaturgy Dramatic Criticism Theatre and Performance Studies Interdisciplinary Theatre Studies or Theatre Education OR M.F.A. in Theatre from a nationally recognized and accredited institution of higher education conferred by the start of appointment
Demonstrated ability to advise mentor and support undergraduate and graduate students from a variety of backgrounds and experiences in the classroom and in the department
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated ability to teach additional emphasis in the performance areas of directing playwriting and/or acting for the camera OR in the production areas of design/technology
Experience in providing effective instruction and advising to a broad population of students
Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills and collegiality as evidenced during the review process
