About the Role

The role of the Boatman will include the following duties and responsibilities:

Policy and Planning

• In conjunction with the Rowing Director & Sailing Director plan and prioritise all tasks within the area of responsibility within required time and budgetary parameters.
• Plan and review all necessary periodic maintenance gardening and equipment schedules.
• Implement procedures to identify and correct Workplace Health and Safety concerns.
• Implement training and operating procedures to ensure reduced maintenance issues within the boat shed and RQYS shelters.

Organising and Operating

• Hands on work repairing and maintaining rowing boats and equipment.
• Conduct all necessary periodic facility and equipment maintenance to ensure compliance with target standard.
• Conduct all necessary reactive (work requests) maintenance activities at the boatshed shelters and at the main School campus
• Oversee the purchases of necessary equipment and materials within approved budgetary constraints.
• Perform all necessary tasks as required to ensure facilities are continually maintained and presented at a high standard including maintenance of the boats oars ergos trailers speed boats sailing craft and other related equipment gardening and cleaning.
• Conduct all necessary periodic maintenance gardening and cleaning to ensure facilities are continually maintained and presented at a high standard and in accordance with the agreed Maintenance Schedule.
• Purchase of equipment and workshop supplies ensuring prior approval from the Rowing or Sailing Director.
• Ensure that the provisions of the Workplace Health and Safety legislation are implemented.

Interactions

• Liaise with the Maintenance Department to ensure awareness of the boat shed requirements.
• Assisting the Maintenance Department at the main Gregory Terrace campus as and when required.
• Liaise with contractors as necessary.
• Develop and foster a relationship with maintenance staff to ensure the delivery of agreed major works and repairs of the building.
• Liaise with the Rowing & Sailing Director to ensure the implementation of related purchasing policies and all other financial systems.
• Liaise with other users of the facility (Tipperoo BGGS Spinnakers) to coordinate safe and efficient access to the facility and equipment.

Any other duty as assigned by the Headmaster Rowing or Sailing Director or delegated authority

Required skills and qualifications

• Qualified boat builder and repairer or equivalent experience.
• Capability to tow rowing boat trailers dingy trailers sailing craft and various logistical trailers up to 3.5 ton.
• Knowledge and experience in safely transporting and loading boat trailers sailing craft and equipment trailers.
• Rowing/Sailing coaching experience an advantage.
