Job Description

This is a fulltime benefits eligible school year position. The duties for this opening would be as follows (not an inclusive listing):KNOWLEDGE and EXPERIENCE:1.A minimum of 3 years of direct experience working with students receiving special education services. 2.Strong background in the teaching/learning process especially with regard to acquisition of skills in literacy mathematics and transition planning at the middle or high school level.3.Direct knowledge and understanding of the developmental social and emotional needs of children and experience with positive behavior supports.4.Knowledge of Special Education Law.5.Excellent communication and collaboration skills6.Knowledge of special education and regular education assessment practicesESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:1.Provide leadership and consultation to both regular and special education teachers with regard to the most appropriate researchbased instructional strategies and programs to meet the needs of diverse learners2.Improve IEP development by assisting special education teachers in establishing data collection systems and making instructional decisions based on that data3.Assist building administrators and the Student Services Director in planning coordinating and/or providing professional development experiences that will result in improved measurable student outcomes4.Work with the Student Services Director to establish and maintain appropriate special education programs and supports at the building level5.Serve as an integral member of buildingbased student support teams (RTI SAT PBIS etc. advisory groups and leadership teams designed to focus on establishment and maintenance of support and intervention systems that will address the academic social and/or emotional needs of learners prior to consideration for referral to special education6.Assist the Student Services Director in developing a responsible budget that meets the needs of our students7.Assume responsibility for activities designed to maintain compliance with federal and state statutes and regulations and local policies including: a. Screening records of all transfer students b. Receiving and initialing referrals to mark the official start of the special education referral process c. Maintaining appropriate records student lists staff schedules etc. d. Serving as administrative designee at IEP meetings e. Coordinating and scheduling regular meetings with other buildingbased professional special education staff f. Coordinating meetings between building staff and Student Services Director g. Assisting administrators in building schedules for professional staff and/or educational technicians h. Case managing initial referrals through assessment and initial identification for special education eligibility i. Completing academic/achievement testing on students in referral j. Supervision and evaluation of Special Education Educational Technicians k. Coordinating placement and services for state agency clients l. Coordinating students who are eligible for Section 504 services8.Assist with the screening and hiring process for special education personnel9.Serve as a general resource to all staff and as a mentor to new staff10. Carry out all other duties as assigned by the Student Services Director and/or the Superintendent of SchoolsPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 1.Must have the ability to remain in a stationary position 50 percent of the time2.Must have the ability to move between district locations and/or inside the office to access file cabinets office machinery etc. 3.The person in this position must have the ability to effectively communicate (through both written and oral means) accurate information with staff parents and community members4.Must have the ability to identify recognize assess and observe students and information OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS:1.Ability to maintain a professional demeanor2.Ability to effectively prioritize workload3.Superior verbal written presentation and interpersonal skills4.Ability to work both independently and as part of a team5.Excellent computer skills and proficiency with a variety of platforms6.The ability to lift/restrain students etc. if/when necessary7.Frequent travel required within and outside of district
