Job Description

The Fabrication Engineering Group provides fabrication engineering and materials management for both mechanical and electronic projects using stateoftheart technology. The group is involved from the initial design through manufacturing assembly integration and test and works with program teams to influence schedule and budget. The group continually investigates innovative fabrication technologies to assess their utility for Laboratory efforts. Facilities include a machine shop with a wide range of computeraided machine tools plus sheet metal polymer facility and mechanical inspection. In the electronics area capabilities include circuitboard design assembly inspection and failure analysis. The group also supports the Laboratorys environmental test requirements with vibration shakers thermal chambers vacuum chambers and clean rooms.

Job Description

Lincoln Laboratory has a requirement for a process/NPI engineering assistant to support electromechanical assembly shops. The primary area of focus will be cable and harness assembly. This position will provide support to the shops by ensuring process readiness to meet program requirements and by directly supporting assembly personnel regarding technical issues and challenges.

This position supports program development teams by implementing and overseeing assembly requirements of cable and harness designs and by providing feedback on programspecific processes and technical challenges in order to facilitate process improvements.

This position drives the implementing and supporting of precision assembly processes by working closely with process engineering to determine root cause recommend corrective and preventive actions implementing process improvements and working with assembly personnel to ensure adherence to process policies and work instructions.

Education: Associate degree in technical/scientific field or equivalent experience in a prototype cable and harness assembly environment.

Experience: 10 years as process engineering assistant or high level technician supporting cable and harness assembly at OEM or contract manufacturing firm or laboratory. Ability to clearly articulate experience and lessons learned in supporting low volume/high mix high reliability assembly operations is one key to securing a position offer.

Preferred candidate has knowledge in design assembly modification routing and understanding of military/NASA specifications as to cable assembly processes.

Skills: Ability to set a direction then motivate personnel to move in that direction; good analytical skills; excellent communication skills; highly creative; good problemsolver; common sense. Although not required printed circuit assembly process experience is a plus.
