The Opportunity:
As the Broadcast Engineer/North Central Operations Lead you will oversee the installation maintenance and repair of eight radio broadcast systems and associated radio studios supporting Northwest Public Broadcasting (NWPB) and the Edward R. Murrow College of Communications (MCC). You will also assist other NWPB engineering team members with the remaining 30 stations across Washington Idaho and Oregon under the direction of the Broadcast Chief Engineer.
Your key responsibilities will include maintaining studiototransmitter links satellite downlinks Emergency Alert Systems telemetry systems and other broadcastrelated components to meet QOS standards and comply with FCC and FAA guidelines. You will manage complex systems including IPbased radio FM (including HD/digital FM) and AM radio transmission satellite downlinks emergency standby power configurations central routing and processing infrastructure and related computerbased monitoring and control. Additionally you will maintain and modify radio studio systems such as AudiooverIP network components (servers switches operating systems etc. audio mixing boards microphones and microphone preamplifiers as needed.
In this position you will provide effective instruction during the installation and modification of broadcast systems and lead team projects.
Located in Wenatchee WA you will work independently from the NWPB headquarters managing broadcast facilities. You will occasionally travel across Washington Idaho and Oregon to support systemwide initiatives.
Required Qualifications:
A Bachelors degree and three 3 years professional experience OR a combination of education and experience totaling seven 7 years from which comparable knowledge and abilities are acquired. Education and experience may be tailored to specific need requirements of position.
Proven experience in broadcast engineering including installation maintenance and repair of radio and television broadcast systems.
Strong knowledge of FCC and FAA guidelines.
Ability to manage complex broadcast systems and infrastructure.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent problemsolving skills and attention to detail.
Demonstrated experience with the Microsoft Office suite.
Strong leadership and team management abilities.
Experience working as a member of a diverse team under deadline constraints.
Must have or be able to obtain by time of hire a valid drivers license and meet requirements in accordance withSPPM7.10 and departmental driving standards.
Willingness to work a flexible schedule occasionally travel drive long distances and occasionally work outside normal business hours.
Preferred Qualifications:
Five 5 years of progressively responsible experience with broadcasting engineering operations and maintenance.
Advancedlevel certifications or licensing. Examples of acceptable certifying organizations include the Federal Communications Commission FCC Society of Broadcast Engineers SBE Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers SCTE International Association for Radio Telecommunications and Electromagnetics (iNARTE) and Telecommunications Certification Organization TCO.
Demonstrated working knowledge of transmission technologies including licensed and
unlicensed microwave satellite uplinks IP based solutions including WAN/LAN wireless WIFI and bonded wireless telephony.
Working knowledge of TCP/IP protocols and the open system interconnection OSI
network model.
Project management experience in a lead or supervisory role.
Additional Information:
This is a fulltime 100 FTE) permanent position. Overtime eligibility will be dependent on final salary placement.
Monthly Salary: $4689.05 $6900.00 Commensurate with experience and qualifications
In accordance with RCW 49.58.110 the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidates current experience education skills and abilities related to the position.
