Job Description

Position Summary

The Opportunity:The Instructional and Classroom Support Technician 2 will provide instructional support for Environmental Conservation laboratory and field courses including limnology river ecology wetland ecology watershed restoration invertebrate biology forest ecology soils and more. This position collaborates with both faculty and staff to provide safe and engaging labs and field trips to SVC Environmental Conservation students. In addition the Instruction and Classroom Support Tech will manage the laboratory facilities including maintaining a clean and organized instructional lab space. This position also maintains and manages field and lab equipment and purchases supplies and equipment for the department.

Prior biology ecology or related laboratory experience strong communication skills effective time management and a commitment to safety culture within the department are essential for this position.

This is a 12month fulltime classified position working 40 hours per week with an adjusted work schedule to accommodate advance scheduled field trip activities. The College may have flexibility with the hours per day and months per year. This position works in the Biology Department on the main campus located in Mount Vernon Washington.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of safe laboratory and field practices including biohazardous waste disposal;

  • Demonstrated experience working in a biology or ecology laboratory or other relevant laboratory work;

  • Experience using biology laboratory equipment including microscopes autoclave micropipette analytical balances furnace and other tools and equipment used in ecology and biology laboratories and field work in both aquatic and terrestrial settings;

  • Experience with ecological laboratory procedures including water quality testing;

  • Microsoft Office Suite particularly Excel or similar programs;

  • Strong oral and written communication skills;

  • Adapt to changing schedules and situations;

  • Effectively organize multiple tasks;

  • Work independently and as part of a team;

  • Proactive and a positive approach in working with students and colleagues from diverse backgrounds;

  • Meet deadlines for laboratory classroom and field trip prep on schedules established by instructors and the department class schedule;

  • Lift up to 50 lbs.;

  • Possess or ability to obtain a valid drivers license;

  • Navigate uneven terrain and aquatic settings.
