Job Description
The Residence Director engages in operational administrative and programmatic initiatives for Student Living. This is a fulltime exempt status professional staff member. This position is a 12 month livein position that is responsible for the management of a residential community housing 250 to 1000 students to which they are assigned and reports to an Assistant Director. Responsibilities include educational managerial and administrative functions to provide an environment supportive of the Universitys mission and vision. This includes implementation of Student Livings curriculum; supervising student leaders; crisis intervention; participation in oncall; resolution of violations of Student Living policies; implementing programs designed to assist students in transitioning to campus living; and other duties as assigned. This is a highly visible position with students and staff providing daytoday support to students student employees and multiple levels of staff. This position is critical to ensure that students living on campus have residential staff committed to their needs and development.

Responsibilities
Utilizes a residential curriculum framework to foster student learning development and engagement. Assists RAs in assessing the needs of residents and developing floor programs to meet their needs. Advises student organizations supported by theory and best practice. Advises students informally with regard to personal social and academic problems and when necessary makes appropriate referrals. Mediates a range of student conflicts including roommate agreements and concerns. Actively develops an environment through dialogue and other educational means that encourages and fosters inclusive communities. Participates in the development and implementation of residentially based learning communities assigned to their building or complex. Works with specific learning community staff members to develop implement and attend Learning Community programs and Team Meetings. Participates in all departmental trainings and debriefings including participating on inclusion focused book reads discussions and activities Trains supervises and participates in the formal and informal evaluation process with anywhere from 821 student leaders in their assigned area. Holds regular hall staff meetings to disseminate pertinent information and oneonone meetings with Resident Advisors. Communicates students rights and responsibilities and assists in adjudicating departmental and university code of conduct violations. Provides staff coverage including emergency duty during the course of the year including hall openings closing and university vacation days. Handles emergency situations utilizing crisis intervention skills and resources. Serves in an oncall rotation with other Professional Staff in their designated area encompassing approximatelystudents. Ensures that the hall staff has an operating knowledge of the procedures policies and practices essential to the effective functioning of the hall. Manages their hall/complex by conducting weekly walkthroughs of their building and follow up with maintenance and custodial concerns. Manages the programming and operation budget for the hall and is an active participant in area meetings departmental meetings and training programs. Establishes a schedule for Residential Work Hours that is appropriate for a studentfacing residentially focused role. Schedules work hours that meet the needs of students living on and offcampus. This includes some evening and weekend hours essential for programs and training as well as some university business hours for meetings and business with other university staff. Maintains a visible and active presence in their residence hall(s). Serves as a member or cochair on departmental committees and will be assigned to work with one of two summer academic programs and/or summer school housing (Summer Sessions or Summer Start). Additionally the Residence Director will perform other related duties as assigned by the Assistant Director and/or Leadership Team.
