Job Description

Job Summary:

Cafeteria personnel are responsible for preparing and serving nutritious meals to students and staff in accordance with school nutrition guidelines. They ensure food safety maintain a clean and organized kitchen and create a positive dining experience for students.

Food Preparation & Service:

  • Assist in preparing and cooking meals following school nutrition guidelines and menus.
  • Portion and serve food efficiently to students and staff during meal times.
  • Ensure food is presented attractively and at the proper temperatures.

Food Safety & Sanitation:

  • Follow all food safety and sanitation regulations as required by state and federal guidelines.
  • Maintain cleanliness of kitchen areas serving lines and equipment.
  • Properly store and handle food to prevent contamination and waste.

Customer Service & Student Interaction:

  • Provide friendly and courteous service to students staff and visitors.
  • Assist students with meal selections and encourage healthy eating habits.
  • Be patient and understanding when working with students of all ages.

Inventory & Supplies Management:

  • Assist in receiving storing and organizing food and kitchen supplies.
  • Monitor stock levels and report shortages to the cafeteria manager.
  • Help minimize food waste by following portion control guidelines.

Teamwork & Other Duties:

  • Work collaboratively with other cafeteria staff to ensure smooth operations.
  • Follow all district policies and procedures related to food service.

Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in food service or school cafeterias is a plus but not required.
  • Knowledge of food safety practices (training provided if needed).
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.

Work Environment & Expectations:

  • Parttime or fulltime position based on district needs.
  • Work in a fastpaced warm kitchen environment.
  • Follow all district policies and state health regulations.
