LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSEdiscover the heart of nursing in Nebraska

JOB SUMMARY: Provides direct and indirect patient care with the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Is responsible for ensuring continuity of care between shifts by understanding patient needs supervising auxiliary staff and carrying out providers orders for a designated group of patients. This position is open for night shift.
EDUCATION:
Associate Degree: Graduate from an accredited School of Practical Nursing (required)
EXPERIENCE:
12 years experience (preferred)
CERTIFICATE LICENSES REGISTRATIONS:
Current Nebraska LPN license or multi state LPN license. (required)
CPR certification within 90 days after employment. (required)
PRIMARY JOB DUTIES:
  1. Adheres to Brodstone Healthcares Mission Vision and Values.
  2. Adheres to Brodstone Healthcares Standards of Behavior.
  3. Adheres to the standards of nursing care and the policies and procedures of the hospital and Nursing Department in accordance with the scope of practice of the state of Nebraska.
  4. Participates in assessment of patient needs and implements plan of nursing care based on the assessment and goals established by the health care team and communicates changes in prescribed plan of care to RN. Utilizes nursing care plans/standards in delivery and documentation of patient care.
  5. Reports pertinent observations and reactions regarding patients to RN including patients behavioral and psychological status and records those observations accurately and concisely.
  6. Provides direct nursing care to patients as assigned by the Charge Nurse.
  7. Receives report and makes observations on all assigned patients at the beginning of the shift.
  8. Demonstrates knowledge of medications and administers medications according to policy/procedure and documents time type amount etc. on patients chart.
  9. Observes patients and reports adverse reactions to medication or treatment to medical personnel in charge.
  10. Performs and documents treatments and procedures as ordered by the provider and/or as instructed and supervised by the RN in accordance with current policy/procedure.
  11. Prepares patients for surgery cares for patients pre and postoperatively and assists in maintaining therapeutic regimes.
  12. Participates in nursing care conferences development of nursing care plans and handoff report to ensure continuity of patient care.
  13. Assists providers with exams treatments and dressing changes when applicable.
  14. Makes frequent nursing rounds on patients to assess any change in condition.
  15. Informs immediate supervisor of needed supplies and equipment or malfunction of equipment.
  16. Demonstrates knowledge and responsibility in care and use of equipment and supplies.
  17. Ability to operate computer systems applicable to assigned duties.
  18. Participates in economical utilization of supplies and ensures that equipment is maintained in a clean and safe manner.
  19. Establishes and maintains communication and utilizes teaching opportunities with patients and other significant individuals.
  20. Recognizes life threatening situations and responds to emergency situations appropriately.
  21. Participates in the maintenance of a clean and safe environment. Follows Standard Precautions as prescribed in hospital policies/procedures.
  22. Active participation in committees for improvement of nursing care recommended.
  23. Observes evaluates and documents care given as well as the patients physical and emotional condition response to or treatments including side effects desired response and contraindications according to hospital policy/procedures.
  24. Makes patient referrals to social service/case managers as needed.
  25. Assures continuity of nursing care through such vehicles as handoff report and nursing care plans.
  26. Maintains an attractive and comfortable environment for patients with special consideration to cleanliness of room.
  27. Has ability to work with a variety of patients regardless of various racial ethnic or sociological
  28. Attends and participates in departmental meetings / inservices Brodstone Healthcare quality improvement program etc.
  29. Performs other duties as assigned.
