Life Skills Coach 1 Description

The Life Skills Coach I position is a highly rewarding position for people who want to promote independence and empower individuals with Autism to enhance their quality of life. Coaches are responsible for planning and facilitating groups within the Life Skills CBDS Program. This includes finding unique and engaging community activities or skills training opportunities and helping build the monthly calendar and then ensuring their group has the appropriate resources to operate smoothly (tickets transportation parking etc. During the group Coaches are expected to promote skill building model appropriate social skills and community safety for individuals monitor safety and wellbeing of all individuals and successfully execute the learning objective of the group.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Provide contracted direct services to individuals in the Life Skills CBDS Program.

  2. Help individuals set personal goals and build skills in the following areas (but not limited to):

  3. Independent living skills (for example: planning/shopping for/cooking simple meals doing their laundry paying their bills reading their mail)

  4. Executive functioning skills (for example: planning prioritizing time management organizational skills task initiation etc.

  5. Basic health management (for example: hygiene nutrition routine fitness arranging & attending appointments)

  6. Building social skills and healthy relationships

  7. Community safety and traveltraining

  8. Selfadvocacy and coping skills

  9. Finding and accessing community resources and social/recreational activities

  10. Soft skills and preemployment training

  11. Thoroughly plan and prepare for all assigned groups such as purchasing tickets arranging transportation identifying parking etc.

  12. Clearly communicating with the Life Skills Program Coordinator about additional needs changes or concerns.

  13. Complete required documentation for groups/sessions/meetings in a timely manner.

  14. Coordinate with the ASD Services Case Manager to ensure individuals are building skills related to their ISP goal(s).

  15. Participate in OQE and CARF accreditation reviews as well as any other external audits.

  16. Build positive relationships with individuals families community connections DDS personnel etc.

  17. Advocate on behalf of individuals to help them live the most independent and fulfilling life they can.

  18. All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Skills and Abilities:

  1. Personal or professional knowledge about Autism Spectrum Disorder

  2. Ability to be creative in determining how to motivate individuals to engage with services

  3. Knowledge of local community resources and/or willingness to find services and activities individuals may be interested in

  4. Flexibility to work with a wide range of individuals families and other service providers

  5. Patience and a good sense of humor!

Education and Experience:

  1. Previous experience in mentoring or coaching preferred

  2. Experience working directly with individuals with Autism preferred

  3. Valid drivers license required with acceptable driving record

  4. Must be able to pass CORI and fingerprinting background checks

  5. Associate or bachelors degree in human services/psychology/social work is a plus

Physical Requirements:

  1. Must be able to pass Safety Care training

  2. Must be able to pass First Aid/CPR Training

  3. Prolonged periods walking.

  4. Prolonged periods sitting in or driving a vehicle.

  5. Must be able to quickly enter and exit vehicles and/or buildings.

  6. Prolonged periods standing bending stooping and reaching.

Mathematical Skills:

  1. Ability to add subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals.

  2. Ability to enter data into HRIS system MAP system Salesforce and other software platforms

  3. Ability to use and understand company technology platforms

Communication Demands:

  1. The ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints.

  2. Good interpersonal skills with polite and courteous demeanor toward staff customers clients and visitors to the property.

  3. The ability to effectively present information to program participants and members of the community.

  4. Ability to effectively communicate with families/guardians and funding agencies and ancillary services.

  5. Provide and receive feedback.

  6. The ability for an individual to accurately convey a message to another person or group of people.

  7. The ability to articulate thoughts clearly and confidently is crucial.

  8. When engaging in conversations or presentations it is essential to maintain a professional tone and language.

  9. Ability to answer phone calls and return missed phone calls in a timely manner

  10. Ability to respond to emails in a timely manner

Environmental Demands:

The work is performed in a nonsmoking environment. The work is normally performed in a temperaturecontrolled zone however there are exceptions. Exposure to noise coworker activity lightening interruption and shared bathrooms.
