Position Summary
Purpose: Assist park staff in various projects while gaining experience in Park Operations Resource Management Administration and Environmental Education. Description of Duties: Intern will work at the Presque Isle State Park Complex and should have a biological/scientific background and be capable of performing the following duties in relation to ongoing studies research monitoring environmental education and maintenance projects at the Presque Isle State Park Complex. Develop new coverage layers and collect review and input data into the GIS (Geographical Information System) at Presque Isle State Park. Work will include the operation of iPads utilizing the Collector App to collect data on treatment areas infrastructures and boundaries of geographic features of the park complex. Assist in planning and implementation of the invasive plant species control project. This involves removal of various invasive plants through mechanical means and/or chemical treatment. Work efforts and results are to be documented as part of an ongoing remedial plan of preserving native plant diversity in the park complex. Assist other DCNR DEP state county local agencies or universities in various research projects affecting the environments of Presque Isle State Park involving all flora fauna and ecosystems found on the park complex. Assist with special events and work with volunteers. Assist Environmental Education staff with recreational and environmental education programs. Wear personal protective equipment where required. Operate a state vehicle or rental vehicle to/from work locations. May be required to perform special project work as necessary. Decision Making: Intern will work under the direction of supervisor. Essential Functions: Read and comprehend documents instructions and correspondence and prepare written reports. Effectively communicate orally and in writing. Traverse rough terrain. Work in various climatic conditions. Work effectively with others. React quickly and calmly. Operate an allterrain vehicle in a sandy environment. Collect plate and count water samples. Operate GPS / GIS equipment. Operate herbicide spraying equipment and tools for removal of invasive plants.

Required Qualifications
Candidates have already been selected as interns through the Regional Science Consortium. Interns are required to have a valid drivers license and a Pennsylvania Fishing License.
