Job Summary:

The Service Technician is responsible for functioning as a skilled Technician able to perform diagnosis automotive repairs and service in all areas in accordance with store and factory standards in addition to being specialized in particular areas of repairs. This individual utilizes his skills to diagnose and resolve the different sources of automotive problems swiftly and accurately. The Service Technician works with all Service personnel and management to ensure the satisfaction of our customers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy in accordance with the Company and manufacturer standards.
  • Diagnoses cause of malfunction and performs repair.
  • Communicates with the parts department to obtain needed parts.
  • Saves and tags parts of the job if under warranty or if requested by the customer.
  • Examines assigned vehicle to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended.
  • Communicates with the Service Advisor immediately if additional work is needed if work outlined is not needed or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time.
  • Documents all work performed and recommended on the repair order.
  • Accurately record time spent on repairs utilizing company time clocking procedures. Road tests vehicles when required to ensure quality of repair work.
  • Participates in manufacturersponsored training programs schools and events. Keeps abreast of manufacturer technical bulletins.
  • Supervises work of any apprentice technicians as assigned.
  • Reports machinery defects or malfunctions to direct supervisor. Ensures that customer and the Company vehicles are kept clean.
  • Notifies the Service Writer immediately of anything that has happened to change the appearance or condition of the vehicle.
  • Keeps shop area neat and clean. Use shop supplies and materials in a practical and economical manner.
  • Maintains and is accountable for all Companyowned tools and manuals. Returns them to the proper place and in the same condition as they were received.
  • Responsible for providing and maintaining an inventory of normal mechanics tools to include screwdrivers wrenches socket wrenches pliers hammers chisels and punches and other tools needed to perform the work for which the technician is trained and not normally inventoried by the service department as special tools.
  • Understands keeps abreast of and complies with federal state and local regulations such as hazardous waste disposal OSHA RighttoKnow and other safety requirements.
  • Operates all tools and equipment in a safe manner.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Technical or trade school degree required or minimum three years of automotive repair experience required.
  • Acquire and maintain manufacturer and ASE certifications by completing the necessary and required training.
  • European diesel experience preferred.
  • Must be able to work on and repair multiple makes of vehicles.
  • Must have the ability to operate a wide variety of vehicles both automatic and manual transmissions. Must have manual dexterity good judgment and ability to operate power and hand tools and other types of machinery safely and efficiently.
  • Must be able to work successfully on a flat rate pay system. Travel to relevant training courses required.
  • A valid drivers license with an acceptable driving record must be maintained for occasional travel requirements and essential job functions.
