GENERAL SUMMARY/OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
Under the general supervision of the Senior Research Lab Manager and the current BWH Metabolic Core research assistant the TRAI will be responsible for conducting experiments for the BWH Metabolic Core. The Metabolic Core consists of a 24 cage Comprehensive Lab Animal Monitoring System (CLAMS) used to noninvasively measure a variety of calorimetric and metabolic data in mice. In conjunction with CLAMS data the CLAMS can monitor internal body temperatures with a surgically implanted probe. Additional Core equipment includes an EchoMRI to measure body mass composition and an oxygen calorimeter to measure kcal in samples.
Working in a molecular biology laboratory setting this individual will assist in conducting all Core fee for service experiments. The TRAI will be responsible for coordinating the usage schedule with researchers. They will also set up the individualized experiments according to researchers specific experimental conditions monitor the CLAMS and the mice during each experiment and troubleshoot issues related to the system. The TRAI will also be responsible for general maintenance and upkeep of the system.
The TRAI is also expected to calculate and interpret data generated for the researchers.
May be responsible for orienting and training new staff in usage of the CLAMS.
Must be flexible with the work schedule
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assist in the set up new experiments in the CLAMS for researchers
2. Assist in temperature probe implantation surgeries.
3. Conduct other Core (non CLAMS) fee for service experiments
4. Analyze data from the non CLAMS experiments.
5. Assist with troubleshooting and upkeep of the CLAMS
6. Coordinates schedule for non CLAMS Core users.
7. All other duties as assigned.
