Job Description

Job Title: Senior Engineer Planning Innov & Development

Department: Innovation Planning & Development

Reports to: Manager of Planning Innovation & Development
Location: In Office Rochester NY

The base salary range for this position is dependent upon experience and location ranging from: $83805 $104756

Job Summary

This role is responsible for supporting the development and implementation of the Companys initiatives with respect to grid modernization technologies and clean energy goals that enhance the electric system across the Avangrid Networks operating companies. Support the development and automation of Advanced Planning tools and applications. The ideal candidate will be skilled and motivated have a technical background in power systems and distribution planning excellent communication skills and a passion for driving innovation. This position will coordinate with other departments during the tools development and automation.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with various teams within Avangrid and assist in research related to innovative tools and emerging technologies to assess the relevance and benefit to the Companys grid modernization and clean energy objectives. Assist on the review and evaluation of new tools and solution alternatives through research and benchmarking. Proactively identify and perform projects & studies that innovatively solve unique & complex problems with a broad impact to the business. Works with other team members and developers to Develop new tools from concept to implementation that enhance existing processes or solves challenges for the Company. Assist in Identifying and implementing best practices and process improvements to enhance the efficiency and quality of the Planning process. Provide technical assistance and consulting to other departments as necessary. Work with vendors contractors and consultants to develop and automate tools and applications Assists in software product design providing feedback to developers performing testing of new features and providing support to end users. Responsible presenting to Upper Management and Executives when necessary.

Skills and Requirements

Education & Experience Required:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent

  • 3 years of relevant experience

Required Technical skills:

  • Power systems engineering

  • Knowledge of Distribution Planning

  • Experience with Grid Modernization and Clean Energy concepts including: Beneficial Electrification DER & Load Forecasting Distribution Automation NonWires Alternatives Hosting Capacity VoltVAR Optimization

  • Capacity planning during normal and contingency system configurations DER distribution system interconnections reliability and resiliency concepts

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to nontechnical stakeholders.

  • Strong analytical and problemsolving skills with a focus on delivering highquality solutions.

Desired Technical skills:

  • Experience with distribution power flow software and grid model management

  • Python Scripting

  • SQL

  • JIRA project management.

  • Experience with Agile software development Scrum methodology
