Job Description

Introduction

We at the Potomac Center/SETT facility provide qualitypersoncentered support to adults with intellectual disabilities at our campusin Hagerstown Maryland. Our aim is to partner with the community to help our residentsachieve their goals.

The Potomac Center is a 62bed licensed Intermediate CareFacility (ICF). This program focuses on using therapeutic interventions toempower residents as they learn the skills they need to successfully return tocommunity living.

The Secure Evaluation and Therapeutic Treatment (SETT)Program located within the Potomac Center campus is a 32bed licensedForensic Residential Center that provides services to individuals withintellectual disabilities and court involvement within a safe and secureenvironment. The program provides assistance as they resolve their courtinvolvement and work toward transitioning to a less secured environment. TheSETT utilizes active treatment as well as providing evaluation assessment andcompetency attainment education.

Main Purpose of Job

This position shall be charged with functional duties andresponsibilities commensurate with full performance level. This position shall be personally responsible forproviding and directing the provision of services to and supervision of Intellectual Disabled Individualsentrusted to cottages care. When leading a medical person on cottage this position must at all times be alert to individuals health status and ensure that medical regimens are at all times followed in accordance withsound nursing judgment and applicable Center Policies and Procedures. This position shall likewise monitorassociates compliance with cottages operating procedures and assess associates performance in terms ofquality and quantity of services; adherence to applicable guidelines; conformance with instructions;demeanor and rapport with individuals; and following program and data collection requirements includingnotes and reports. This position shall bring any problems or concerns to the Cottage Manager and/orRNs timely. Under general auspices of RNs this position shall strictly adhere to pertinent medicalprotocols including RN/Physician alerts or reports; medications; assessments; evidence of injury orsymptoms of illness; and written entries in appropriate documents in a timely and accurate manner. Andfinally discharging all duties and conducting oneself at all times per all relevant Regulations StandardsPolicies and Procedures including: Departments of Budget and Management and Mental Health andHygiene; Title 17 CODE OF MARYLAND REGULATIONS; MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING;Office of Health Quality; ICFMR; Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services; and Potomac Center./SETT.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Determined bythe Maryland Board of Nursing under the licensing requirements for PracticalNurses.

Experience: One year of experience asa Licensed Practical Nurse.

Note:
Candidates may substituteU.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer inNursing classificationsor Nursing or Health Care Specialist specialtycodes in the Nursing field of work on a yearforyear basis for the requiredexperience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should possess the following:
  • Experience performing nursing procedures such as administering prescribed medications monitoring patients vital signs obtaining specimens for laboratory testing and assisting in physical examinations etc
  • Experience working with intellectually disabled and/or forensic populations

LICENSES REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in thisclassification must possess a current license as a Practical Nurse from theMaryland Board of Nursing.

2. Employees in this classificationmay be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle.Employees assigned such duties will be require to possess a motor vehicleoperators license valid in the State of Maryland.

3. Employees in this classificationmay be required to successfully complete and maintain current certification ofcardiopulmonary resuscitation training.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Employees in this classificationare subject to callin and therefore will be required to provide the facilitywith a telephone number where they can be reached.

2. Employees in this classificationare subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of MarylandRegulations 17.04.09 Testing for Illegal Use of .
