Medical Director of Lung Transplant Job OpportunityBaylor University Medical Center (BUMC) in Dallas Texas is seeking a Lung Transplant Physician to join an establish team.Summary of the PositionThe Division of Pulmonary Critical Care and Sleep Medicine (PCCSM) at Baylor University Medical CenterDallas (BUMC) and The Sammons Transplant Institute are seeking a Lung Transplant Pulmonologist to serve as the Medical Director of our expanding Lung Transplant Program.This is an outstanding opportunity to join a nationally ranked pulmonary division and practice at a nationally known academic medical center. The Medical Director will work with the multidisciplinary leadership of BUMC the Division the Department of Medicine and the Department of Thoracic Surgery to lead a highly successful lung transplant program. The Division has outstanding clinical educational and research programs with 55 faculty and established premier clinical programs in interstitial lung diseases pulmonary hypertension cystic fibrosis and bronchiectasis interventional pulmonology asthma and COPD mycobacterial lung disease thoracic oncology sleep medicine critical care and ECMO.Baylor University Medical Center is a large tertiary/quaternary referral medical center with over 900 hospital beds 120 intensive care beds and the Martha Foster Asthma Center. The Lung Transplant Clinic is housed within the Center for Advanced Heart and Lung Disease a stateoftheart facility with radiology pulmonary function lab pulmonary rehab and a cardiopulmonary exercise lab. BUMC also has established programs in renal liver kidney uterine BMT and cardiac transplantation. Salary and academic rank commensurate with experience Lung Transplantation ProgramFounded in 1990 the BUMC Lung Transplant Program has performed over 718 lung transplants. Utilizing advanced technology to expand the donor pool the BUMC Lung Transplant Program continues to grow and performs 4045 transplants per year. The Program also continues to grow its clinical research program and expand protocols that improve patient outcomes. The Program also has an active outreach program receiving referrals from Central West and North Texas and the surrounding states. Expectations of the Medical Director PositionThe Director of Lung Transplantation reports to the Chief of the Division of Pulmonary Critical Care & Sleep Medicine within the Department of Internal Medicine (DOM).Candidates are expected to play a significant leadership role in the growth of the lung transplant program and be responsible for overseeing all aspects of clinical patient care.The successful candidate must actively participate in hospital rounds morning reports conferences consultations ambulatory care and other similar activities.The Director is responsible for coordinating and providing comprehensive lung transplantation consultations throughout the medical center. Candidates are expected to be involved in the teaching of medical students residents and fellows as well as participate in patientoriented research in the areas of advanced lung diseases and lung transplantation.The Director will assist the Chief in recruiting and supervising staff physicians assigned to the program. There will be protected administrative time to attend to the development and growth of the program outreach and for the pursuit of research activities. Key Responsibilities:Program Vision and Mission: Ensure that the vision and mission for patient care education and research are achieved.Leadership and Strategic Planning: Work with the leadership of BUMC PCCSM DOM and Thoracic Surgery establishing goals that align with the vision and values of BS&W BUMC and TAMU COM. The Director is responsible for longrange strategic planning for the continued growth and development of the Program.Clinical Oversight: Ensure all medical aspects of patient care are at the highest quality and meets or exceeds all regulatory accreditation and quality standards. Oversite responsibilities include but are not limited to clinical team management establishing and maintaining clinical protocols and monitoring the Programs clinical outcomes.Program Development: Oversee the development and implementation of initiatives and programs which enhance the quality of care. Identify opportunities for growth development and collaboration with other departments providers and institutions. Oversee the Programs expanding outreach efforts.Quality Improvement: Ensure that the Program meets or exceeds all quality standards including those set by regulatory and accreditation bodies. As required monitor quality metrics implement quality improvement initiatives and ensure that the program is prepared for regulatory or accreditation surveys. Assist in the organization and analysis of outcomes data for clinical research and regulatory compliance. Research and Education: Promote and support research and educational activities related to lung transplantation including collaborating with other departments and providers. Additionally manage educational programs for staff and trainees and disseminate research findings to internal and external stakeholders. Introduce educational protocols for pre and posttransplant care.Service: Represent the Program at committees and serve as a mentor for ongoing research activities for junior faculty. In this role the successful candidate will review all research proposals and manuscripts and when appropriate provide counsel and feedback.
